Steam capsule research - Feedback appreciated

So, after working on multiple custom capsules in search of a catchy one, i was curious and played with AI a bit. For research purposes. This is the state of it:

Original ones (2 first ones)
AI generated ones are after (iteration with 1970's sci fi cover instructions + separated logo).

I'm pissed, but they do look way better, granted I worked on the instructions to specifically position elements in more perspective and placement, and "though" more about it that my previous manual attempts.

I'm leaning towards re-drawing them by hand. One can tell there were AI generated, but i'm still wondering to what extend would they be acceptable if I used them as is on steam).

Advice and feedback welcome (please keep it polite, i'm not strongly opinonated for or against AI either).

Which is better for capsule art?

I was told that because the game takes place in the body I needed to have a red background. I changed it up and made it red. I am not sure about my feelings between the two. I like the blue better for a capsule because it grabs your attention more in my opinion but I understand the sentiment.

Would you mind giving me your thoughts, and would you suggest any other major changes?

Edit: Sorry I used two separate images rather than one.

[HIRING] Steam capsule artist wanted for Who Heckled? | $350 USD | Colourful, comedic stylised 3D

I'm looking for an artist to create the full Steam capsule art for our upcoming PC game, Who Heckled?

Colourful, playful and comedic. It's stylised 3D with a slightly low poly look. I already have mockups and reference images, and I want you to recreate them in a polished final form.

I'd like to see a few different versions or suggestions to pick from before we settle on a final direction. I also need you to be open to revisions until I'm happy with it.

The budget is $350 USD.

For payment, all work goes through Upwork, Fiverr or another platform with payment protection. If you know of a better one, suggest it and we can use that. I won't pay outside a platform.

To apply, comment below with:

Your portfolio, with Steam capsule or key art if you have it

The payment platform you'd like to work on

I'll send the mockups and full brief to the people I shortlist. All DMs will be ignored, so please reply in the comments

I redesigned my game’s Steam capsule. Does it look any better?

The old one was an actual screenshot from the game. The new one is a simple looking composition, featuring an in-game dragon using its fire-breath ability on a background I also use in the game. Tried to make it more readable. Is it any better?

Stuff with the logo or not?

Post image

So I got the logo with some extra stuff (see in the top), in the beginning I liked it but noticed latly that it kinda gets hard to read on the smallest capsle. So I've removed on the smallest but thinking if to keep it consistency to maybe remove and have "plain" everywhere?

What do people think? Do the extra stuff add much to the logo?

Which of these 4 would you click? City tycoon, all real in-game shots

Post image
2 Upvotes

Picking the Steam capsule for BlockRise, a city tycoon where you buy plots, open shops and fight rivals for the street.

All four are in-game shots with the logo on top, no painted key art.

A1 / A2: street level, first shops under construction, the city behind.

B1 / B2: top-down on a crossroads, plots and buildings.

Which one reads best at small size, and why? Is an in-game shot enough for a capsule, or does this genre need illustrated key art?

I updated my Capsule Art to connect more with players, and I'm looking for feedback. Here are my hypotheses…

Post image

Hello community, I am looking for feedback on my new capsule Art,

I'm testing some improvements from the previous one where I think I made these mistakes:

  • - The character is looking down and too far away, so it's hard to connect with the audience.
  • - Washed-out color tones; it might not contrast enough on Steam
  • - It doesn't tell much about the game; it was just a character standing there.

So I made:

  • - The character is more focused, with a clearer facial expression
  • - Stronger color palettes and more vibrant.
  • - Action-based game with action-based art; you can tell it's an action game from afar.

Do you think I achieved my goals? And any suggestions besides that?

In case you need to know more about the game to provide your opinion:

Thank youuuu

Simplier or more noisy? Which one is better?

Hi everyone!

I'm working on steam page for my inverse-tower defense roguelite, and I'm trying to design my capsule image.

I decided to create a capsule from actual game assets and put it (partly) through the same posprocess the main game uses.

Here is, for reference, the screenshot of an actual gameplay.

At first attempt, I just put the game name and some unit sprites following the path, and for a bigger one added more turrets on decorative sub-path (images 1 and 3).

Then I tried to add more decor and make the name a bit smaller to fit this decor (images 2 and 4).

Now, the first one looks too empty and placeholder-like for me, but the second is kinda too cluttered.

Be glad to hear any advice of how to make them ever better.
Maybe I should put some decor like chips and transistors, like in the main gameplay? But I'm afraid it will make image ever more cluttered.

I paid $500 USD for this capsule art. Do you think it was it worth it?

I personally think it turned out great! $500 sounds like a lot, but this includes the logo and all the different variations required for Steam. The artist also worked closely with me over several weeks to iterate on the design and make sure everything looked perfect!

The artist's name is Xilurus for anyone interested, would highly recommend :D

How does this work as a game capsule?

Not much to say other than it is a labor of love and I was inspired by those defense of the ancients loading screens and wanted one for my game.

Would this Steam capsule make you stop scrolling?

Post image

I’ve been slowly working on my first game, and this is the current Steam capsule I made for it.

I went with a bold red background because I wanted something that would stand out Steam. The goal was to make it feel punchy and recognizable even at a small size.

I’m still learning what makes a capsule actually work on Steam, If you saw this while browsing Steam, would it actually catch your attention and make you stop scrolling?

And more importantly, would it make you curious enough to click?

I spent the last two days updating the Steam capsule for our game - FireGrid. Your feedback motivated me to recreate the "scene" and make a new firefighter pose or improve the contrast. I must say I love how it turned out. Thank you Reddit people!

I added a little "behind the scene" screenshot :)

What can you tell about my game from the cover?

Just released my game after a few years of procrastination!

I love using extremely simple software to make art. My game cover art was created using GameMaker's pixel art editor, and lots of effects in Paint.NET :D

£250 ($330), does it capture your attention? Its an incremental farming sim mixed with a bullet-hell underworld.

Old capsule vs new one for our kids' quiz game. Which would you click?

Post image

Left is the capsule our demo launched with in September. I made it myself: a pencil stuck in a joystick, on a chalkboard. Right is what illustrator Kong_vector drew for us: the rabbit and the soldier from two of our five mini-games, running away from a giant quiz card.

The game is EdNoKa, quiz-powered mini-games for kids 8 to 11, in Steam Next Fest from October 19. The new one went live October 4.

What would you still change? Too busy, title big enough, does it read at the small size?
