Not going to say where, or what time, or under what circumstances, because I don't want to blow up his spot (it was in public, I'm not a weirdo or anything.) I didn't say anything to him, because he must get that all the time and I didn't want him to feel like I was asking him for something. But I can't deny I had that initial moment of "oh, holy SHIT, it's Freddie Freeman" and I wanted to say something to him.
But what occurred in that moment wasn't about the LCS, or the world series, or even this year at all. What I really wanted to say to him, before I quickly decided to leave him alone to enjoy his break from all of it, was thank you. Thanks for 2024 and the most exciting moment I've had as a Dodger fan since I was a little kid, way past my bedtime, listening to game 1 of the 1988 world series on the radio. Thanks for walking off that 18-inning prizefight (again well past my bedtime), last October. Thanks for the Freddie dance, and the whole stadium cheering "Freddie" all at once, and the clutch picks at first. Thanks for the worm.
Whatever happens tomorrow, and in this series, and in the rest of this year, and next year, all of it is going to be fun, and heartbreaking, and ecstatic, and frustrating, probably all in equal measure. But we are the luckiest group of fans in the history of this century-old franchise. Lots of us got to experience the greatest announcer the game ever has or ever will know. And all of us have gotten to watch the greatest group of players that's ever worn the uniform.
So thanks to Freddie, and Mookie, and Max, and Shohei, and Yama, and Snellzilla, and Kikè, and Andy, and Teo, and Alex, and everyone else. And thanks to all of you here in this little corner of the internet for making every win and every loss a community affair. Whatever happens next, we'll all watch it together.
Let's go Freddie. Let's go Dodgers.
