Located in the Santa Rosa, California area. Dogwood is an incredible rescue organization with an amazing network of fosters and other volunteers. I saw this cute guy in their newsletter and wanted to share.

She is on a weight loss journey and needs her nails trimmed.
She has been with me since i was 6 years old, recently she had a dentist appointment and was left with 5 front teeth which she still uses to eat bones, she is deaf but listens better than our cat. Her personality is the best and she loves people. She likes to run around on the grass and gets zoomies on rainy days and goes crazy for treats. We have our own sign language that she has learned so well

Little miss has been drinking water much more frequently lately. Other than that, acting completely normal. Could be early cushings, early renal issues, diabetes or......my favorite option, nothing. Time will tell. Whatever it is, we'll manage it. I love this girl so much.

I wanted to wait to post this here and I think I'm ready to.
Rocky Rockstar, who has been my best friend, my soul dog, and my son for the past 14 years passed away on October 2nd.
I met Rocky when he was a week old, and he climbed into my lap and chose me as his mama. I got to take him home when he was 5 weeks old when my aunt was afraid that he wouldn't make it to 8 weeks because his siblings wouldn't let him eat and his mom Oreo would snap at him. He was the runt of his litter, and I found out that he outlived his siblings. However, we did receive his nephew Levi from my other aunt, who Rocky had a very close bond with. 💙
When Rocky was 9 years old, my mom got me my Golden Chi, Eevee, for my birthday. And while Eevee drove Rocky crazy with his high energy, the two loved each other like true brothers do. (The last photo is me with Rocky on my right, Eevee in the middle, and Levi on my left).
Rocky was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure when he was 10 years old. After being on medication for it for about a year or two, he stopped having symptoms of Congestive Heart Failure. I felt relieved because I couldn't afford the medication anymore due to becoming too disabled to work and being rejected by disability. I got an additional 4 years with Rocky where he was himself, and I even met my fiancé, John, who immediately had Rocky's approval, love, and trust. Rocky also made John hand feed him every meal. He was a spoiled, sassy, happy, sweet, and loving boy up until the end.
On the 2nd, Rocky was having some rough breathing but he usually does when it's time to clean the floors and the dirt and dust are getting to him. But he let out a painful bark that made both John and I shot up out of bed. I knew he had gum disease and went to check his teeth when I saw that the inside of his lips were white, meaning that his circulation was compromised. His tongue also turned blue on the way to the hospital. I held Rocky the entire time and begged him to not die, but the second he was taken to the back room at the emergency vet, he arrested. He held on until I was out of the room to go so that way I didn't have to see him go. He loved me that much.
They did CPR and the vet came out to ask if I wanted them to do another round of CPR, and after asking a couple questions and finding out that he was gone and CPR bringing him back was unlikely, I decided to stop CPR because I didn't want to put his tiny body through the trauma of multiple rounds of CPR. Plus I told him that he decides when and how he goes, and he made that decision. As his mother and best friend, I needed to respect his wishes.
They allowed John and I to see him and hold him. We called my parents while we did as well. They also made clay paw prints for us. And they wrapped him up for us so we could bring him home to make arrangements for his body. Which we plan to freeze dry him, so that way when we miss him, we can hold him and pet him and he's still here.
I'm glad that he got to choose when he went and that I was wise enough to only do one round of CPR. CPR is so traumatic to the body, so if you have an elderly pet, please don't do more than one round. We know our Chihuahuas wouldn't leave us physically unless they have no choice. So, always respect their wishes.
Rocky has let me know that he's still with me in spirit. I have an Eevee figure above my bed that can't be knocked off because it's resting on a bean bag pillow, and while laying in bed, Rocky knocked it off and placed it on my shoulder where he would always be when I would have to get up and he wanted to stay on me. He'll also drop random hairs of his on me or my phone to say hello. And I could hear his breathing the other night but John couldn't. Rocky is also in my dreams every single night. The dream doesn't even have to be about him. He's just there.
Love is stronger than death and this has been proven by Rocky's actions as a ghost doggie. It's also helped me understand death in other ways.
Of course, I miss him more than anything, and the months that he'll be in a freeze dryer will be hard. But I love him so much and I'm treating our relationship and our love for each other as if he isn't gone, because he isn't. I still say goodnight to him every night as well. And I encourage everyone going through this awful experience to do the same. Because it helps. Dogs do get an afterlife and our Chihuahuas wouldn't wanna spend theirs anywhere else but by our side. ❤️🩹🐾

I’ve officially had ‘Margot’ a full week, and it took that long for Mini (min-pin) to warm up to her. Now they’re playing like besties. My heart !

We have a Trio again after losing Coop at 18
in December last year. Charles is a 1 year old special needs rescue Chi. He was surrendered as a newborn as he was born with a hard and soft cleft palate. His foster Mom tube fed him to give him a chance to thrive. He’s overcome pneumonia twice and also has alopecia. He had his soft palate surgery but still has a hard palate cleft due his mouth being so small. We are going to be taking him into our specialist to see if anything further can be done as recommended by our vet. Currently he’s on a specific diet to avoid any potential aspiration. We followed Charles’s journey when he came into the rescue and can’t believe he’s ours. We have been feeling the void ever since Coop left us suddenly last December. It was too painful to post about but we miss him like crazy. It’s strange having a trio once more… But he fits right in and the girls (Nelly, Lucy and even our cat Maui) are in love with him. (And us too obviously) 💖💖💖 We picked him up last Saturday so here is a little photo dump. (Only the windows have been edited for privacy reasons)

16 years old. Level 4 heart murmur. Limpy leg.
But he doesn’t seem to act his age.
Anyone else relate?
I won’t put him on heart pills it makes him tired and do nothing. I rather him pass happy than lethargic and out of it.

This is our 7 year old lovable but sometimes derpy chi named Jaxon. He’s always been amazing at his bathroom training- even right from the time we adopted him as a tiny pup. The last few months though he’s started peeing on various soft items within his reach, edge of the sofa, bottom of the curtains, even his own bed.
One trigger seems to be if we leave him alone for a bit, for example if I leave him downstairs to run up and put some laundry in. I know he does not have a UTI or anything though because he sleeps through the night and holds it eight hours with no problem. I am leaning towards this is acting out or behavioral.
Generally if we leave the house he and his brother get gated into a small area where they have food, water and a pee pad. He will go on the pee pad then with no problem. He’s on one medication phenobarbital for seizures but they’re controlled and he hasn’t had one in a long time. Any thoughts or advice? I’m just pulling my hair out trying to figure this out 😞

My baby Milo is currently at the animal hospital. He has had slight trachea collapse for a couple of years which made him cough every once in a while.
The last few weeks the coughing became much more persistent and I had an appointment scheduled for this morning, thank goodness. He was coughing quite a bit and on the way there started getting wheezy. When we got there they took him straight back and put him in oxygen and did x-rays.
The vet came back and basically said he had severe collapsing trachea when he breathes out, along with a slightly enlarged heart. Then he basically said they can try medication to get him breathing better and try to wean him off the oxygen or the other option was euthanasia. I was shocked. We had never even tried medication for the trachea. I asked if there were surgical options and he said he only knows of vets in like Colorado that do it. Surely it’s more common?
I’m sorry, I’m all over the place I’m so upset. Does anyone have any experience or advice? I left him at the vet he’s getting oxygen and I believe they started a steroid and antibiotic. But I’m waiting for vet to call me back.
I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed, I’ve never posted and I was just googling and found this subreddit.
Please help if you can
