Thank you for the kind responses to my last post. Lily passed peacefully this afternoon, after 15 amazing years. Hug your pups for me please š« š„¹ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Every time he gets a chew he holds in his mouth and whimpers the whole time and then will drop it and pounce at it, then pick up again and cry and bury in the couch cushionsā¦.. it cracks me up but I didnāt know if anyone else has experienced this with their britts

My mother owns a 14 year old Brittany that is one of the last pieces of my dad, who passed away a year ago, and I am very concerned about the dogs well being and happiness. The dog is so sweet but has really gone downhill in the last year since losing my dad, specifically:
- the dog is nearly totally deaf and we think her eyesight is nearly gone. She wonāt go outside at night unless my mom takes her and often runs into walls and things.
- the dog has become overweight since my dad left and my mom wonāt put her on a diet. She should weigh around 35 lbs but weighs 42.
- the dog can barely walk and falls down a lot. Her weight is not helping.
- the dog has dementia and sundowns every night now.
- the dog has growths all over her body, including around her eyes and feet. The vet says they are benign but they impede her vision and ability to walk.
- the dog is only interested in eating.
- the dog no longer recognizes me or my brother. She thinks men my dadās height are my dad and she becomes excited, but is scared of other men, including my brother who lived with her and hunted with her longer. The dog is more responsive to me and I never lived in the same house as her, but she no longer recognizes me and initially flinches if I try to pet her.
- I think the dog has congestive heart failure because of how she breathes. My mom canāt really afford to get a diagnosis.
- the dog has some illness that makes her unable to control her bladder. Sheās on expensive medication to treat it that my mom can barely afford. My mom prioritizes the dogs medication and vet treatment over her own health and my mom is NOT young.
All in all, the quality of life doesnāt seem to be there anymore. I am not there every day, but I spent the past weekend with my mom and the dog and was horrified at how badly the dog had deteriorated since Iād last seen her in late August. My mom is supposedly taking her to the vet every other week or so, but I donāt know if I buy it. The dog looks horrible and itās so sad because she used to look healthy and cute, even just six months ago.
Respectfully, I think it is the dogs time and itās unfair to keep her alive in these conditions. I really think my mom is holding on because she was my dadās dog and itās one of the last living memories of him besides me and my brother. My mom said sheās aware the dog might have to be put down soon but doesnāt seem willing to even discuss it beyond vague specifics. I am just so concerned about the dog and her health. I shared info about at home euthanasia and even pet hospice and offered to be there and to help cover the cost but it was like talking to a brick wall.
Does anyone have advice or resources on how to talk to my mother about this? We owned Brits all our lives and there was another dog that suffered for so long because my dad wouldnāt let her go (to the point where a tumor was visible and had totally altered the dogs face). That was horrific to witness and I donāt want this to happen to this poor girl. Thank you for kind and tactful advice specific to Brits.

This is Macy, originally āMercedes de plum creekā she might actually be some of your pups momma! I got her at 8 1/2 and boy has it been an interesting adventure! She dosnt like toys, sheās actually terrified of the squeaky noises but loves her snuffle mat? She hardly barks, opposite of our other Brittany. Her separation anxiety is awful but sheās on Prozac and itās seeming to help š. I just will never get over how much this girl loves grassā¤ļø

He gets all of the attention everywhere we go. He is quite smart too. Levi is mixed with some cattle dog, but certainly the Britney takes over. No interest in birds yet, just squirrels and trash. I got him when he was 12 weeks and heās yet to poop in the house. He is a delight.

Hey all.
We have a brittany / cocker spaniel cross although he seems to be more brittany than cocker.
He's 16 weeks at the moment and otherwise doing well except for some issues regarding possible separation anxiety.
He's SUUUPER attached to my partner to the point if she leaves he will throw himself at the front door and just generally go crazy. If we are out walking and I take the lead and go in an opposite direction he will start howling and crying and trying to run back to her.
Also our neighbour has said during the day that he spends a lot of the day howling/crying.
We don't leave him for that long, 2 hours in the morning and someone comes in for an hour to play with him and walk etc then another 2 1/2 in the afternoon. He has a frozen kong in the afternoon to play with/eat and keep him entertained.
When he was younger we spent time with him coming and going to get him used to us leaving and he seemed okay, but he seems to start becoming more upset when we (or mostly my partner) are gone?
Is this normal brittany puppy/growing up stuff and will get better or should we make a point to work on it again whilst he is still young?
What do people suggest?
I've had many dogs but never had issues with this before.
Thanks in advance and have put some pics up of our pup.

We can't believe we've had Meatball for almost a year. He has turned out to be the sweetest, smartest little guy with --of course-- no shortage of energy or appetite. We love him more and more with every day that goes by. For his birthday we bought him some new tug ropes, new (durable) toys, some chew bones and treated him to some sugar-free Protein pancakes with, apples, bacon, pupperoni, and greek yogurt as his birthday cake. For dinner, I made him some plain grilled chicken on the grill and more bacon.

This guy is 10 years old, has a little arthritis, and is completely blind. Yet, he still always knows when I have the cheese out. Funny guy.

We said goodbye to our sweet little guy "Rascal" on 10/3 and we are inconsolable, wondering when the crying will stop. It was done in our home and he passed in our arms. His health and dementia had come to the point where he no longer had quality of life and we made the responsible decision. He was an award winner and a sensational hunter. There aren't enough words for me to describe how he was and how much we loved him. He was the last of three French Brittanies we had who we affectionately named "The insane clown posse" I hope you enjoy the photos.
