No doubt everyone is hearing the early reports of the first cases of H5 Bird Flu. We want to collate whatever information people will need to be responsible birders. Please share any information you come across that may be of use.
I'm pulling all of this initial information straight from BirdLife Australia.
Details that will assist the response include:
What are the symptoms of H5 bird flu in birds?
Numerous dead birds in a location, including small groups or clusters (five or more) of wild birds of any species could be a sign that H5 bird flu has infected local populations and should be reported.
Individual dead birds, or fewer than five sick or dead wild birds, should be reported if they are seabirds, waterbirds, shorebirds or birds of prey.
In individual birds, warning signs that should be reported include:

Thank God I saw these two before my 3 month old puppy did.
Found a fairly safe spot for them out the front and made sure their parents are keeping up the bug deliveries.
They've survived the night, so here's hoping they'll make it to fledging

Visiting from Canada and saw this bird with its head tucked into its body- initially thought it was an owl before I saw its head! Sitting on a dock in Nelson Bay.

I noticed a little bird hanging around my back door and thought it was weird that it was always there until I noticed the little nest with 2 babies in it. We have been away for a couple of weeks so not sure how long they have been here. They are very small and hover in place.
What type of birds are they?

They forage at low tide near where they're building their nests. I'm thinking maybe they're hunting small crabs? Any ideas?

This one is the most comfortable around people (unfortunately I think the neighbours feed them) but there's about a dozen or so that rule our street in Moreton Bay

See our Tawny pals most nights when I walk the dog.
Been lucky - it’s that time of year, we are getting the beautiful yellowtail black cockatoos visiting in the afternoons

First time seeing one up close (or at all) today.
Fujifilm XM-5 & XF 100-400mm (sooc jpg).
Edit: Accidentally double posted - I meant to just change which photos are up. Both posts have comments now so I'll leave it up to the mods.
