I'm an artist and I love arts/culture. Have lived in NYC and LA and enjoyed them but now after trying LA again this past summer, I find it overwhelming. The pollution, traffic, and grittiness is a lot for me. NYC would be too much as well. I am wondering if San Diego is a good fit. I know there is less there, but I'm wondering if there still is some arts/culture and if it's a good fit for someone who loves art/culture but wants to take the intense city living down a notch?

I'm considering coming there for a month in a few days (in Seattle now), but feel like I am seeing mixed things - people who love it and there's still some arts/culture and those who say really it's the beach and restaurants type of culture. I've been there twice before but really only for a few days each. It did seem more like a beach city without serious arts there, but I can't know from those short stints.

We are traveling north on the 805 merging to the 5 by Sorrento Valley going about 80-ish and boom SUV driving about 65. Sure it’s the HOV lane but also on the right lane. Why do people seem to go the speed limit on the HOV lane?

I am considering moving to the San Diego area with my husband and 13 and 11 year children from Boston, MA. We visited Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Encinitas over the summer and decided we liked Carlsbad the best. A friend of ours suggested looking at Carmel Valley as well. Are there any specific recommendations for neighborhoods/areas that we should check out that would be good for a family interested in golf, tennis, and dance? Being close to good restaurants/bars and/or a neighborhood feel would be a nice bonus. Is there anything in particular we should know about the area - good or bad?

Also, would anyone be able to provide any pros or cons to living in Carlsbad versus Carmel Valley?

We work remotely, so commuting time isn’t a factor.

My husband, our almost 5-year-old son and I will be moving from the UK to San Diego later this year, and we're currently trying to figure out the best area to live in.

We've never lived in California before, so we'd really appreciate some advice from locals!

We're looking for:

• A safe, family-friendly neighbourhood.
• Good public elementary schools.
• Parks, playgrounds and activities for young children.
• Ideally somewhere not too far inland, as we'd prefer to avoid the really hot summers.
• A monthly rental budget of around $3,000 - $4,000.

We've been looking at Carlsbad, San Marcos, Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Oceanside and Poway, but we're open to other suggestions!

We really like Carlsbad, but it seems quite expensive, so we're trying to find somewhere that offers a good balance between affordability, schools and quality of life.

Since we're moving from another country, this is all completely new to us, and we'd love to hear your experiences, especially from families with young children.

Are there any particular neighbourhoods you'd recommend? Or areas you'd avoid?

I’m in my 30s and living near SDSU Health East. Are there any good hangout spots to check out nearby for someone who likes video games, tabletop games and things of that nature? Don’t mind a trolley ride somewhere as long as it’s not too far a walk once I’m at my designated spot either.

Hi all I’ve only lived in San Diego / California for 2 years and my first 2 were in Mira Mesa on a 5th floor apartment. Now I’m in mission gorge near the Admiral Baker golf course and I’m in a first floor unit that we just finished moving everything into and I’m worried about flooding. I know that area says it’s a flood risk but I’m curious if any of you who have been in the San Diego area longer know am I actually at a large risk of getting my apartment flooded? Especially with hurricane rachel potentially bringing rainfall. Is it a mistake to do 1st floor units? Thanks for any input.

hello! i got my cna license 2 months ago and i’ve applied to some hospital jobs but i keep getting rejected, it’s likely because i don’t have cna experience but i wanted to try to apply anyways. i was wondering is there are any good nursing homes or memory care places to work at as a cna. i’ve always been told not to work in a nursing home, but i need some experience before i apply to hospitals again. i’m also afraid of being mistreated as a cna. please let me know if there is anything good here!

Was wondering if anyone knows of any therapy groups that are free to attend? I’m going through some severe depression at the moment and think it might be beneficial for me to attend some group therapy. I have weekly therapy sessions one on one over the phone but it hasn’t really helped alleviate my depression

hello!!! i have lived in san diego for years and have also been doing my own hair for years. i have a hair stylist for highlighting/all over colors when i dont feel like damaging my hair, but she's in AZ and i have no plans to go there anytime soon. i am trying to find a good salon to try out for highlight root touch ups and an all over color on curly hair. i know it's going to be pricey, but everything i have found online is around $250 for both services. i have definitely gone to cheaper salons and paid less than half of that. sooo just wondering if anyone has any suggestions!!! or just tell me honestly if i'm going to have to bite the bullet, lol. thanks in advance!
