You people are un-fucking-believable. Before you stands a machine ( AI ) which can literally revolutionize the entirety of the human experience: from birth to death. It will make scarcity disappear, it will give every single one of us the ability to live and work wherever we'd like, if we'd like, because work as a concept will be a thing of the past in 20-30 years. All that we need to do as a species is embrace it.

But no, instead you losers watch as a promising exploration of this technology sadly goes under, and you clap. Why? You're all sad excuses for members of the species, and I can't wait for the day to come when I can upload my brain somewhere else, so I can claim I'm a physically different species to you. That's how little I want to have to do with the likes of you.

Run my thoughts through something that ‘thinks’ for me? Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? I have given AI a lot of thought, as part of my job as an Anthropologist and Computer Scientist. I don’t say these things out of ignorance for the technology or fear of new things. I would earnestly encourage you to take a break from the internet and go outside and talk to real people as AI is not as popular or revolutionary as you claim. I don’t intend that as a way to belittle you, but arguing in online spaces with strangers seems a sad way to spend a life (yes, I realize the irony. I am currently taking a shit on company time.)

Anyway, I have to wipe my ass so…take care. I mean that earnestly.

LLMs are hardly the revolution you seem to think they are. They are undoubtedly useful for certain tasks, but they are being used irresponsibly and for tasks they are not good at. The whole industry is built on a sham of false promises and a misrepresentation of the technology’s capabilities.

lol it’s not going to make scarcity disappear, at best it’s going to optimize scarcity for the shareholders. Is today your first day on earth? You honestly think this tool is going to be used to improve the life of average or poor people? We’re so much more productive in these last 30 years because of technology and have our lives changed? Do we work less? No, we’ve just concentrated wealth at the top of our economy to the detriment of everything else.

LLMs do not write genuinely new material, and cannot emote. Markov chaining is just as much a valid method of prophecy as the oracle of Delphi breathing ethylene fumes from fault lines under the Temple of Apollo and rambling while high on natural gas. You're mistaking a computer for a brain while it's not yet powerful enough to do anything better than you could get from paying a human artist fairly for their work.

Even if hypothetically AI would solve scarcity, theres no reason to believe that the billionaires who control the technology would share with the rest of us.

As for actual technology, large language models and generative AI won't solve scarcity anyway.
