So my issues are: this girl cannot stop bringing up her dead mother in every conversation she takes part in, she has the critical thinking and self-preservation skills of an iPad kid, and the biggest one, Honda felt too perfect, too pure of a person—she’s practically Naruto with the way this bitch was Talk No Jutsu-ing the entire fucking cast.

I watched maybe 30–40 romance anime from niche gems to popular slops, and let me tell you, I never—and I mean NEVER—gave up on a single one due to how dogshit it is. I might have stopped some halfway since I wanted to watch something better, but I always got back to them. However, Fruits Basket is so dogshit that I feel physically repulsed when it is brought up, which some people would like to argue about, but there is no defending it. It’s like Mushoku Tensei fans doing generational runs saving their goat Rudeus from those pred allegations, even though they are true.

Like, when I say that I’d rather restart Mushoku Tensei—an anime I hate, and when I say hate, I don’t mean it lightly. When I say hate, it means I’d lose my life fighting every Rudeus fan without my arms or legs and blindfolded, I mean it—and I would rather do that than continue Fruits Basket. Not even restart, continue! And I love rewatching shows; I used to rewatch more shows than start new ones. But now, the second I see someone rank Fruits Basket anywhere near their top 50, hell, top 100, I discredit any credibility the person had before. Like, they could have been fucking Superman and saved millions of people, but if I see that damned name near their list, they are dead to me. I would rather be experimented on by Orochimaru, be serving Makima as a tool, be stuck in a time loop and die endlessly while watching my family die, go through thousands of years of life and constantly see people die who I get attached to, and hell, even become a Mushoku Tensei fan, but never—and I mean NEVER—will I complete Fruits Basket. This might be extreme. No, let me be honest, it is extreme, but it is for good reason.

This, and also because it is gassed up to seem like it is moving like fucking Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, but no, it has no motion, no gas, and practically no real development. It was genuinely less engaging than a dead skunk on the side of the road I have been seeing for the past week. I am someone with ADHD and I get interested easily; I was able to watch my goldfish that have the combined IQ of a damn door (a non-sentient object) than watch a second more of Fruits Basket. The show has no movement; it was practically Kyoto High School in JJK. All of them are gassed up and out, like all of them—only Todo and maybe Mechamaru are good—which symbolizes Fruits Basket. It takes like 100 shots and lands 2, fucking 2, and people call it peak. This has to be those same Dragon Ball adults who are supporting this meaningless show due to nostalgia.

Let me tell you, I bet if I time-traveled back in time, I could probably see a French man have a better romantic story making love with a shoe he found off the road from some poor soul who had his head cut off and placed on a spike than Fruits Basket. And I can’t—I never hated on anything except Mushoku Tensei, and even then, it was more against the themes, like the underlying ones, more than the actual show and the story not punishing him for his actions.

And even more to ruffle some feathers, it has as much depth and intellectual thought as COTE. And as a man who has watched the anime and read the LNs, that show wasn’t the next Death Note it was made out to be. Every small thing a character does is exaggerated, their claims have no solid basis, and the shit they say has less correlation than anti-vaccine people saying the government is mind-controlling you with vaccines or whatever those crazy conspiracy people say. Ayanokoji is a bum. He is practically just a textbook; all he can do is recall knowledge that he was taught in a cram school, which is what the White Room really is—just a cram school. This man could be planning to take a shit in five minutes and the show will make it look like he saved the entire country of South Sudan from corruption and misery. Then, we have these random philosophical quotes for no reason. I think I am on a side tangent, but yes, Fruits Basket is practically COTE in the romance genre.

And I can genuinely write better stories, and I can prove it. I write fanfics as a side-to-side hobby and I could rewrite the story better. Fuck it, I think a single dude who has never felt the touch of a woman could do better.

But you know what? I might be hating the show and it might be terrible, but there are always bigger fish, as Qui-Gon said, which is Rent-a-Girlfriend—the nightmare that keeps going.
