Guidelines Welcome to /r/webseries! Here's everything* you need to know...

Hello! This is a refresher for our regular visitors and a breakdown of the subreddit for new users.

If you're new to reddit entirely, please first visit the wiki on reddiquette to learn how the site functions and what's expected of you as a contributor.

/r/webseries is a COMMUNITY for:

  • Sharing web-series that you found or made
  • Discussing the creative, technical & distributive processes with other members
  • Being a web series creator!

This is NOT a place for:

  • Dumping links to your shows and leaving
  • Submitting of "Let's Play" or other gameplay videos
  • Submitting any video that isn't part of a series

While we do hope folks conduct themselves respectfully towards each other, we also encourage open criticism of work so we can all improve. Just don't be a dick.

This and other information can be found here and in our sidebar --->

PARTICIPATION

We're a steadily growing sub - over 1000 subscribers! - so we can really kickstart some great discussions, critiques, referrals, collaborations, who knows what else. The problem is...

We haven't been. Yet. A huge thank you to all of the users who do watch, upvote, and comment on their peers work, but let's see if we can make that the norm around here.

To put it plainly, we all want views. The higher upvoted our whole front page is and the more conversation going on in each post, the more outsiders will want to join. Right now we're a sub filled with creators, but we have the potential to bring the audience to us, and that starts with good participation.

Please be supportive and comment/like/subscribe, these are your peers in the industry and could eventually be your collaborators on a production down the road, if that's where we take this sub. It starts with your upvotes, your views, and your comments.

FORMATTING

In order to keep our sub as clean and user-friendly as possible, we've enforced a formatting policy that looks like this:

[FLAIR] Title text here blah blah [TIMESTAMP]

What this means:

At the end of your link title, include a bracketed/parenthetical note of how long your video is.

The flair can then be chosen after posting. There are explanations of the different flairs/genres in the sidebar.

Posts that violate the formatting policy will be removed, but please feel free to resubmit them with the correct formatting! We're not going to exclude anyone, the formatting just helps drive traffic. We all want more viewers!

Pro-tip: After submitting, you'll be automatically redirected to the comments section of your video. There's a link below your submitted text that says "Retry thumb," click it and it will generate a thumbnail from your submission, rather than sticking you with the boring default reddit snoo!

CRITIQUES

Most of the work submitted here is finalized and ready for viewing, but sometimes - especially with all the crowdfunding campaigns - you just need some fresh eyes on your work-in-progress.

We now have a link flair just for that - CRITIQUE MY WORK. For people who need notes on a rough cut or want to know which bit of music works best or which take to use for a punchline. Submit whole episodes or short scenes or individual shots, it's entirely up to you.

There are so many creators in here, you might as well take advantage of their opinions!

CONTEST

The rules to the contest are in the sidebar, and the comment thread for that is the other post stickied to the top of our front page. Please submit your series! It's free! Why the hell wouldn't you? You want the exposure, we want to give it to you!

We don't have a ton in the way of prizes yet? but winners will receive:

  • Their series featured in the announcement banner for the entire month
  • Their video added to the start of the Best of /r/webseries YouTube playlist
  • Likes and subscriptions from the /r/webseries YouTube Channel and mods
  • A featured ad in the sidebar that links to your video for the entire month
  • User flair announcing that you've won a previous contest

What do you have to lose?? Submit your series today!

FINAL WORDS

This place has been (and could potentially become again) a link dump. Content creators desperate for another outlet come to our sub, create a profile, dump their links, and leave, never even checking in on the comments.

Let's not have that be our thing. Some subs use reddit's built-in karma minimums or account creation time minimums, but I don't want to discourage new users from posting because of all that - especially when people are new to reddit. Instead, we all just need to actively watch and comment on other people's work. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the more votes, comments, and views each of us get, the more subscribers and traffic we all get.

Let's turn this sub into the go-to place for discovering good web content and OC on reddit!

Spotlight I AM Kevin Gillese writer/EP of Hart of America, and Artistic Director of Dad's Garage TV ask me anything.

Hi guys, looking forward to chatting with you later on today. I'll be answering questions from about 3pm EST to 5pm EST. We can talk about anything really, but presumably we'll focus on web series because this IS r/webseries

Some stuff I've worked on over the past few years:

http://www.hartofamerica.com This is the big one. We've taken it to a bunch of festivals including Series Fest in Denver and we're about to take it to New York TV Fest next month. I co-wrote and was executive producer on this series, also I play the Big Foot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGi61DvRtBk Here's a short film we made for the 69 hour film fest in Atlanta. We won! This project has also screened at a few other festivals since then.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wJvkpvDVtU Here's a sketch we made at Dad's Garage with the immortal Colin Mochrie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izX2q1jYqgo And here's something we made for last Cinco de Mayo.

So yeah, if you want to talk about writing, producing, or what to do with your series once it's finished, those are things I can speak to. We can also talk about whatever the eff you want because this is an AMA and thems the rules.

EDIT: due to the overwhelming amount of questions I've received, we've decided to keep this AMA going for awhile (like maybe ongoing for a week or so) so feel free to drop a question if you're so inclined, and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Comedy What is The Mower Show?

The Mower Show is a very strange web series that has been in the works since 2014. Much like Shrek, it has layers. On the surface, it's a wacky musical adventure story about the cast of an obscure old video game trying to get out of enemy territory to attend a mower show. But much like with Shrek himself, the deeper you go and the more time and effort you invest, the more yuo'll start to find things aren't quite what they at first might seem.

A more detailed summary of the series including some highlights to watch can be found here:

You can see the trailer on the official YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/6FlcLf8xnOk

Mower Show content is streamed regularly on Twitch: https://twitch.com/DontCallMeTwinky

Happy until eliminated

¡Hola!

Episode 1 of my Australian strategy game show is out now on YouTube!

After months of filming and editing, I’ve released Episode 1 of Definitely Not The Devil’s Plan 2, my fan-made Australian reality competition show!

It’s a four-part series featuring 10 players competing in strategy games, making alliances and trying to survive elimination, with a cash prize for the winner.

The format is based on the Korean Netflix show The Devil’s Plan, and inspired by other Korean strategy shows like The Genius.

We’ve stepped things up considerably from our first season, with a bigger production, custom games and a full filming crew.

You can watch episode 1 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tZn-am9IEY

Would love to hear what you think! Hope you enjoy. :)

introducing my animated web series: TADWORLDS

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, let me introduce myself, my name is Stickguy or however my Reddit username says, and I present to all of you my animated web series TADWORLDS. It's a series that I originally created in 2021 but decided to take seriously to make a complete story with a lot of lore in 2022. The series is basically about a group of stickman friends whose three main members are Tad Harryson (the protagonist of the series), Edd Wood (his "best" friend), and Max Harryson (his sister), where they go through different experiences in life and meet friends and enemies, or in some cases, become friends with people who were once their enemies. I won’t go into too much detail because I want you to see it for yourselves. So, here’s the playlist for the main series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD5gCDzBfNutQyfssdGaw6qZJUgRw74sm

And before you say the animation quality is bad, I just want to tell you to watch my evolution from the first episode to the last one I released.

I accept any kind of criticism, whether constructive or harsh. But don’t go overboard. Also, you can find the rest of my social media, like Discord servers, in the YouTube channel description if you’re interested. Well, I hope you like my project. Any requests or interests you have regarding the series, just message me in the comments. Cya.

- sincerely stickguy and the whole team at tadworlds company

We got an intro for the series folks!

This one took a bit, so please check out their accounts on instagram but I wanted to thank the lovely composer Mike ( @coolcataudio ) for an incredible piece!

I also wanted to thank people who have helped with the intro/thesis. Hana (they do not have an instgram), Rebis ( @asabovesobelowstudios) , Kenya (@roseken33) , Rollito ( @lost_rollito), and Brady (@bradyritchie) with the additional animations used for it.

Lolo/Lee for the intro art as well as the ClintxBoone (Cloone) art (@scragg_lee)

This took a while to get it composed as well as animated. Anyways enjoy the introduction and we hope you stay tuned for the series. 🤠 👢
