The leaves are browning, the nights are getting longer, and dodgeball season is right around the corner.
Every November, UASUevents hosts Campus Cup, a dodgeball tournament bringing together 1,500+ players for a weekend of competition, team spirit, and questionable athletic decisions.
With registration now open, October is one of our busiest months for answering questions from teams getting ready to compete. Whether you're signing up for the first time or returning for another year, here are answers to some of the most common questions we get.
Can I join if I don't have a team?
Absolutely! You can register as a free agent and potentially be placed on a team with open spots.
However, registering as a free agent doesn't guarantee placement. It depends on the number of free agents looking for teams and the number of available spots.
Do I need experience to referee?
No prior experience is required! We'll train you on the rules of the game and how to referee matches.
First-time referees will work in the recreational division, while playoff games are reserved for experienced referees with multiple years of experience.
When are the registration deadlines?
Here are the important dates to keep in mind:
- Early bird registration deadline: October 16
- Regular registration deadline: October 30, or earlier if all spots fill up
If you're planning to participate, registering before the early bird deadline is your best bet.
When do I need to submit my team logo?
All team logos must be submitted by October 23 at 11:59 PM. Once your team has paid their registration, you’ll receive email instructions on how to submit your team’s logo!
Logos submitted after this deadline will not be used, so make sure your team has everything ready in advance.
What are sportspersonship points?
Campus Cup is competitive, but good sportspersonship and camaraderie are expected throughout the tournament.
At the end of each match, referees assign sportspersonship points to each team based on their conduct:
- +1 point: No unsportspersonlike behaviour occurs, and no warning is issued.
- 0 points: Unsportspersonlike behaviour occurs but stops after a referee's warning.
- -1 point: Unsportspersonlike behaviour continues after a referee's warning.
Teams that consistently receive negative points will receive a warning from the Campus Cup organizers. Exact point totals won't be disclosed to teams during the tournament.
If a team fails to improve its behaviour after receiving a warning, it can be eliminated from playoff contention regardless of its ranking.
Why was my team name rejected?
We love creative, funny, and ridiculous team names. However, names that are offensive, excessively vulgar, or graphic won't be approved.
Get creative, but keep it appropriate for a tournament involving the wider campus community.
Can I put a custom name on the back of my shirt?
Yes! This is a new feature for Campus Cup 2026.
If your team orders custom shirts, you'll have the option to add a custom name to the back for an additional charge. Start thinking about what nickname you want everyone yelling across the court.
What are the perks of registering for Campus Cup?
There's more to Campus Cup than dodgeball. Every player who signs a waiver receives a Campus Cup branded swag bag filled with goodies. In previous years, these have included snacks, drinks, discount cards, and other items.
Teams also receive custom T-shirts, whether they're featuring a team-designed logo or a Campus Cup design. They're great for showing off your team and making sure you look the part in all those tournament photos.
There's also the Players Lounge!
The Players Lounge is an 18+ space open Friday evening and throughout Saturday, featuring:
- Games like air hockey and Super Smash Bros.
- A Hardest Throw Competition
- Bar service
- A pancake breakfast in the morning
It's a chance to take a break between games, hang out with other teams, and enjoy more of the Campus Cup experience.
Can I bring an under-18 teammate into the Players Lounge for a team photo?
Yes, with some restrictions.
Before 11 AM on Saturday, under-18 teammates can enter the Players Lounge. In the afternoon, they can briefly enter to take a team photo but must leave immediately afterward, as the space becomes restricted to those aged 18 and older.
How do playoffs work, and how does my team qualify?
Teams are divided into divisions within their respective conferences. During the regular tournament, teams play every other team in their division before being ranked.
Playoff qualification works as follows:
- Competitive conference: The top four teams in each division advance to the playoffs.
- Recreational and experienced conferences: The top two teams in each division advance, with a potential for limited wildcard spots depending on team registration numbers
Playoffs follow a single-elimination format, meaning one loss ends your run.
Match formats depend on the round:
- Most playoff matches: Best of three games.
- Semi-finals and finals: Best of five games.
Win your matches, keep your cool, and hopefully make it all the way to the finals.
