And Just Like That... We Have New Rules

For starters I want to apologize for the lack of moderation that has been going on around here. There are only two of us active mods and both of us are going through big life transitions right now. We have talked recently and will be more active now that the new show is premiering.

Speaking of the new show we will be implementing a weekly watch discussion. The discussion will take place on r/Andjustlikethat starting tonight at midnight PST. We ask that all discussions pertaining to the new show take place on the new subreddit. Posts on this subreddit will be removed if a spoiler tag is not used or if the headline contains a spoiler.

Finally we ask that users continue to be respectful towards each other. There's been an influx of reports of bullying including some exaggerated reports. This subreddit is a safe space for all Sex and the City fans and racism, misogyny, and harassment in general will not be tolerated. The person who recently started drama has deleted their account so there's not much more we can do. If you feel you are being the target of harassment please report the comment AND send us a ModMail so that we can react quickly.

Thank you for making the subreddit a fun place and we look forward to watching the new show with you all.

Unpopular opinion: Miranda had the biggest fashion evolution in the entire series.

I genuinely believe her evolution wasn't just visual, but also reflected in her confidence. I feel like this is the best version of Miranda, and I absolutely love the "He's Just Not That Into You" episode and the one with the jeans.

Pre- Big Carrie

I really loved the first 4-5 episodes, before Big and Carrie start seeing each other. Especially the one where they’re supposed to meet for their first date and he brings his friend along. The way she pays for their next drink and walks out- it was so cool !!! I mean, Carrie is still my favorite character post big and everything but season 1 younger carrie was something else

What do you think are the most unrealistic moments in the show?

I mean...the sleigh ride is ridiculous IMO.*

So what are the most unrealistic moments to you across SATC?

*(Also noticing how the snow is even placed there artificially...it's only on the path, not in the park's grass.)

Am I the only one who thinks Aidan is a massive douchebag?

Ok, I’m probably going to get some hate for this, but I genuinely do not understand the love for Aidan.
High-key, I think he’s a douchebag, and it’s not even just about him and Carrie’s relationship. It’s the way he approached her and the way he seemed to want to fit her into this more traditional relationship dynamic rather than actually taking the time to understand who she was as a person.

Sometimes, I felt like he was more interested in the idea of Carrie being the woman who would fit into his world than accepting Carrie for who she actually was. There’s something about the way he tried to dominate the relationship in a more traditional sense that rubbed me the wrong way. I never really felt like he genuinely understood her.

And honestly? I don’t think they had that much chemistry. I understand that they had history, and I get why people might find him attractive as a partner on paper, but I never felt that their connection was as convincing as people make it out to be.

Which is why their attempt to reconnect in the reboot (And Just Like That)… absolutely baffled me.

After everything that happened, I was genuinely sitting there wondering why we were revisiting this relationship again. What exactly are we trying to prove here?

I also find some of his behaviour quite piggish, and I’m surprised that he gets put on such a pedestal compared to some of Carrie’s other love interests.

I am not saying Carrie was perfect, because she absolutely had her own issues, but I feel like Aidan gets a pass for a lot of things simply because he’s presented as the “good guys.” that got cheated on.

WHAT DO YALL THINK?

Am I being too harsh on Aidan, or does anyone else see what I’m talking about?

Samantha gets flanderized so hard

They just slowly but surely inflate her character traits until shes kind of cartoonish by the end. I think all the girls go through this (the show reaally leans into goofiness towards the end), but with Samantha it's just so extreme. Watching the episode where Aleksandr finally meets Carrie's friends and their partners, and Samantha breaks the silence by going "i think my maid's using my vibrator." Not like i find anything wrong with Samantha's lack of a filter, (she's hilarious) but i dont know, that and other examples make me feel like they were intentionally trying to make her character as one dimensional as possible, and reduce her other traits like her wit and natural charm. Like, that's the first thing she says after a moment of silence, really?

It's just such a random switch up that early seasons Samantha seems like a stranger. Maybe I need to rewatch from the beginning and check if im imagining this, but i feel like S1/S2 samantha just loves sex and joking with her girlies with sex puns and talking about dick sizes.. but by the end they just have her as Sex, the person. That was her first time meeting Aleksandr too! I feel she'd maybe say something flirty or sexually subtle in that scene as a classic Samantha moment, not just BOOM sex right off the bat. Let me know yalls thoughts

Hard to believe Mr. Big never cheated on Carrie

Mr. Big cheated on his first wife Barbara, his second wife Natasha (with Carrie), but somehow avoided cheating on Carrie? Carrie even technically cheated on him by kissing Aiden but you’re telling me he’s a good boy now?

I guess I can see how old age changes people but cmon, once a cheater always a cheater.

Evan Handler on Kristen’s podcast

So so interesting to hear him talk about how he was made to feel that he wasn’t grateful enough to be there and his refusal to be a ‘cheerleader’ in the team. He came close to getting fired because he questioned a few things and agreed with MPK that he’d show less ‘attitude’ if he got out of the cheerleading. Kristin pretends to be shocked, that she didn’t know what was going on, but it’s an insight into the culture behind the scenes in later seasons - lots of control and paranoia coming from the top. I bet Evan is Team Kim.

Charlotte and Trey

Do you think Charlotte would’ve stayed with Trey if he was the reason they struggled conceiving? I just finished their storyline again and it really got me wondering whether Charlotte would’ve stayed.

Shayna knew…

Post image
184 Upvotes

I think Shayna knew Carrie was the bitch that broke Aidan’s heart first time around that is what she gave her “that look”. That is why she mentioned “we got us a good guy” to remind carrie to NOT hurt aiden a second time around.

On another note- Shayna was a better match for him. More chill, simple.

Did you ever buy any random thing inspired by the show?

Just finished my first-time watch of SATC at 32 years old Spoiler

What an amazing series, I genuinely had a soft spot for all the characters by the end (minus Alexsander). Obviously there's lots of things that haven't aged well, but I found it almost cathartic watching as a woman in her early 30s that life still has so much to give.

Also this scene in the final episode might be my favourite shot from the series - would love to see what everyone else's fave shots are!

Charlotte and Samantha

I might be on the unpopular side of the fence but I love their friendship.

It is the most complex and the most human. They fall out, they make up but above all, they support eachother whenever it cimes down to it.

If they had met in other circumstances, theyd unlikely be friends but I just enjoy that theyre a reflection of a human friendship.

Carrie's crying in the scenes about Bigs heart operation Spoiler

I honestly thought she was supposed to be pretending to cry, both in the dinner scene and when she's with the girls for lunch, it was such bad acting, it seems like she's pretending to cry for them to show as though she's not thinking the operation is a big deal.

How they met . . .

I know that Harry and Charolette are one of the most beloved couples on the show and although I did like them once they were together, I really don’t like the way they came together. I know a lot of people talk about Harry not telling her about marrying a Jew thing but I want to go back to what I didn’t like even before that.
We all know they met because Charolette was getting divorced and he became her lawyer. I’m assuming she had to have told him personal details about why she was getting divorced and we don’t know what exactly I’m guessing enough for him to understand her case or whatnot. When Harry became attracted to her we don’t know but it obviously started at some point working as her lawyer. Maybe he want malicious in his intent to get her interested in him but obviously he was cataloging a way to get her interest. One I don’t like him showing up to her apartment randomly to serve her divorce papers. And I believe she even says something about how someone else usually does that but he told her he wanted to himself. Him showing up to her house unexpectedly when he could have called her to set up a good time to come by or either let her know he was coming or he was sending someone else.
Second he tells her he will help her find a new apartment and takes her to a sketchy ass apartment that had some kind of sexual setup and he even says he had used the apartment.
Third he turns the shades and is all like I have to have you and how much he wants her sexually. I don’t see most women jumping a man who brought her to a strange apartment no matter what she was going through.
And this is the final part he plays on her vulnerability and insecurities from just being recently divorced. And he knew that Charolette would have never looked twice had he not played on her emotionally vulnerability. I wish they would have done it differently. Like maybe his confession was less about his sexual desire for her and more him wanting her to give him a chance to get to know him and maybe with some time they could start seeing each other if she likes him.
