What’s the point of the ones digit in the SAT score?

I.e. why is your score a “1420” or a “1270” instead of a “142” or “127”? Does it have any reason?

(Inspired by that one post about why it’s 400-1600 instead of 0-1200)

something seriously needs to be done about accommodations

• Upvotes

was casually texting a girl at a private school—fairly well known costs around ~60k-80k a year—and she told me that she’s in the process of getting accommodations for the sat. she seemingly does not have adhd and is getting a diagnosis purely for additional time.

when i brought up to her how this is unfair to students who take the test without accommodations, she informed me that a significant portion of students at her school gets additional time on the sat, and that there is an established network to get an adhd diagnosis within her school community.

i just think it’s ludicrous that the wealthy can pay for medical diagnoses to gain additional time on a standardized test.

obviously there are those who genuinely need additional time, but the propensity of abuse is just ridiculous.

Good but annoying situation

I scored a 1520 on my first SAT which I am so happy with in Junior year.

At the same time, I’m a perfectionist, and really want to get a higher score (might sound crazy idk).

But my mom said she won’t let me take it again (not out of financial concerns but bc she thinks the 1520 is good enough and I shouldn’t put more stress on myself).

I really know that I can improve my reading (I got 790 m, 730 rw), but regardless my mom won’t let me take it again.

Do colleges see how many times and when you take it? Like will it look more impressive that I only took it once and early in junior year compared to ppl who get the same score but after taking it 5 times.

And also do you think I should just call it quits and my mom is right?

I have a 1250 SAT as a junior, how could I get it up before end of winter break?

Hey everyone! I’m a HS Junior and I took the August SAT and got a 1250, I was struggling in the math section pretty bad because I don’t know how to utilize desmos. Apparently collegeboard changed the questions into us relying on desmos less. I want to atleast get a 1450+ before winter break ends.

What resources could I use? I’m struggling on problem solving/data analysis and geometry questions the most and I ended with a 570 Math score :/ im really stumped right now, so please help me make a plan to get this up!

Are practice PSATs worth it/accurate for NMSQT or should I just fo SAT practices?

I'm taking the PSAT soon and I'm aiming for national merit as I scored the second highest in my grade in my school last year and I have been consistently practicing the SAT over the summer and early school year. Are the bluebook practice PSAT tests more accurate to my potential PSAT score, are they more accurate qyestion types of what will be on the PSAT, and are they worth doing over SAT practices if my short term goal is the PSAT and not the SAT? Or should I just stick to conventional SAT studying?

why does the sat give 400 free points

if you get 400 points from leaving the entire sat blank , why dont they just remove that and make it out of 1200 instead

payment issues for registering for the Nov 7th SAT?

Hi all

I have been trying to register for the Nov 7th SAT for about 10 days now, trying every day. the full process of registering going smoothly, I am able to choose my dates, my venues, and other stuff just like I did for my previous SAT. however, when I am trying to pay, from the usual card I use, and the one I used for my previous SAT, it keeps showing a payment error. I have tried using multiple cards, multiple banks, incognito tabs, different browsers. None of them worked. I also approached customer service via call thrice, but they were useless. genuinely.

I am getting quite worried now, since the dateline is very close, and this is my last chance to sit for the SAT.

please, if any of you have any advice on the above, I would be grateful.

What score did you get on your first SAT? Did it meet your expectations?

I'm taking my first SAT this november but I feel like I'm setting unrealistic expectations for myself by expecting a 1400 minimum. I would like to know how people scored on the SAT and whether that met, exceeded, or subverted expectations.

Should I retake? Thoughts?

First SAT in April, got a 1340. Second in June, got a 1370.

Most recently, I took the September test and received a 1470 (760 rw, 710 math).
Pretty happy with this score! Great reading score, and I want to go into a more humanities-based field, and both over 700.

Already submitted for EA to some school, mostly public schools in my state, but I have quite some time for deadlines for the T20s I’m applying to. Do you think it’s worth retaking to get that math score higher? I’m conflicted. On the one hand, I’m really happy with my score and don’t think increasing it will significantly increase my chances of getting into the 3 T20s I’m applying to. On the other hand, I wonder if with just a week or two of focused study I could bring my score up to 1500 or higher.
Thoughts?

How do I get rw from 760 to 800?

I made one vocabulary mistake on September. I very rarely get a question wrong in practice, so any test tips are appreciated. I just don’t know how the clear the last 40 points. (Current 760rw, 790 math, first sat)

1250 on the SAT and retaking November 7

Hey everyone! I’m a high school senior and I recently got a 1250 on the SAT. I’m retaking it on November 7 and would really like to improve my score, ideally to a 1400+.

For those who have improved their scores significantly, what did you do differently while studying? I’m looking for advice on resources, study schedules, practice tests, reviewing mistakes, and anything else that actually helped you.

Also, how did you balance studying with schoolwork and college applications? I’m applying to colleges right now, so time is definitely limited 😭

Any advice is appreciated! If you went from the 1200s to the 1400s, please tell me what worked for you!!

How accurate are the Kaplan practice tests?

I took two Kaplan tests recently and got a 1460 and now a month later a 1570. I wonder how accurate this recent score is though, i got a 780rw and 790 math. Missed 3 questions in RW1 and 1 question in RW2, and two questions in each math module. Would missing 8 total questions still lead to a score this high on the actual SAT?

Looking for English Resources

Hello!

I took the August SAT and I scored a 1470 with a 700 on English and a 770 on Math.

Now, I’m taking the November SAT. I’m looking for some advice on how to improve my English score.

I’ve used up all my practice tests — should I go back even if I’ve done them before?

I also purchased the Erica Meltzer books — if I lock in on those, will it help?

For vocabulary, it is worthwhile trying to memorize/practice it with flashcards? Or, should I stick to roots/suffixes practice.

Lastly, are there any Youtubers/other resources you guys suggest? Any help is appreciated….I need a 1500+ SAT score or else my parents will cook me.
