Discussion "What is the best test kit for ... ?" and other FAQ

Before posting always use search function or the following resources:

Are you looking for the best test kit for your needs?

See this thread or use search function, 99% of use cases have been repeatedly discussed here.

Do you have questions regarding testing?

Again, use search function before asking, your issue has most likely been explained numerous times. These include but are not limited to:

  • Where to find all expected results?
    • Look on your test kit vendor page, in the subreddit top bar link - or use search function. For most common compounds there are relevant videos, photos and chart posted by Automod in every thread.
  • Multiple colors in a reaction?
    • It is not reliable to identify multiple reactions from a single test. 1 test = 1 color change result.
  • Simon’s result is weird?
    • Any non-blue Simon's reagent color change should be interpreted as a negative, no secondary amines present (no MDMA, meth, PMMA, eutylone, CMC or MMC)
  • Marquis flashes yellow before turning black?
    • This is perfectly normal, when testing MDMA it matters most how instant is the black onset more than exact hue of split-second initial color.
  • Is gel/blotter tab leaching ink or is it reacting with Ehrlich / Hofmann?
    • Even if only sample turns purplish/blueish that's still a positive result.
  • Faint fentanyl test strip line?
    • Faint lines also count. Remember to dilute 1 mg / 100 ml when testing stimulant drugs.
  • Froehde turns blueish?
    • This is a common indicator of an unidentified synthesis leftover.
  • What are all different reagents for exactly?
    • See comparions chart here or more up to date in Questions section here.

...other questions?

You guessed it - use the search function! Only if you can't find an answer there feel free to start a new thread.

Discussion This is how you tell if you have a fresh control reference of your reagent. IN CLEAR GLASS ON LEFT. Not black plastic on right. You have to waste reagent just to get a few drops of a control sample out of the black plastic bottle.

Am i just a complainer or do i have a valid point? These reagents aren’t cheap and the 5mL bottle is only a teaspoon of reagent. Please switch to clear glass.

If you go to the bunk police site and search for marquis they list all the reagents in a frosty white 5mL plastic bottle. This poses the same problem. You can’t see your reagent that well to know if it’s fresh or turned color. These need to be in clear glass bottles too.

Inconclusive I want to start by saying I’m an amateur. I’ve been playing seriously with reagents less than a year. Only dabbled at first. With that said. Any clues?

Supposed to be fire booger sugar. Haven’t tried yet. Missed the 30 second shot but got the 180!second shot. Is this indicating the possibility of meth/amph and/or levamisole?

Solved! Zimmermann test at 3mmc, 4mmc

Hey friends, has anyone tested ZIMMERMANN their cathinone and had it turn purple, confirming it? Because I've tested it twice and it doesn't, but the effect is the same. I know it's difficult to find raw materials, but what do they use instead?
Does anyone know?
Look at the photos from the 3mmc and 4mmc tests. Could it be that this doesn't exist anymore and they're deceiving us with something else?

Solved! Most reagents are clear. Few have color. Scott for example. I was sent a chart that’s hard to see because bottles used were off white 5ml plastic bottles. The page should be redone with 10ml glass bottles. You can really see the colors this way.

This was a well known reagent vendors in the US. Please redo the page. It would help so much.

I would perform this test but i only have about 5 of roughly 12 reagents. I saw the chart of reagents in their natural state but it was a little blurry and the bottles should have been the larger glass 10ml bottle so you can really see the reagent color really good. Not the small off white 5ml plastic bottles.

I’ve received bad reagents right out of the box and i want to know if i have good fresh product. Fresh Mecke shouldn’t be black. Fresh Marquis shouldn’t be orange. What good is spoiled reagent if you don’t know it’s bad. Scott reagent has a color to it as you can see. To the untrained eye someone may think it’s going bad when it’s perfectly fine.

And yes I store my reagents properly. Write toxic on the box and keep it cool in the fridge. I should get a year out of them not 4 months.

Discussion Testing for levamisole, which reagent to rule out lidocaine, using urine to rule out amp

Testing for levamisole

Hey everyone so I bought a Lieberman reagent. Came up orange instead of yellow which can mean amp, leva or lidocaine

So my plan is to test my urine today to rule out amp. Then which reagent would be best for determining if it’s leva or lidocaine?

Also, I’m not sure if this is allowed. if not, I will repost this, but at this point, instead of just buying all of these individually, I would like to get a whole kit and I was looking at one for $50, but they sadly cannot ship to the US right now

Anyone have recommendations?

Solved! Oxycodone and 5 reagents. Does this look right. It’s supposed to be an Oxydolor 80s according to my friend who wanted me to test it.

Sorry about the lighting on the first picture. The flash was off and I didn’t realize it. Ignore the beard hair in the first pic too. I’m a caveman.

So what do you think. Froehde is one of the best indicators for oxy when it turns yellow. I see yellow, but after 180 seconds I see a little pink. Mecke looks ok as does Morris. I’m used to seeing purple with Marquis but I’m told this orange/peach color is normal for oxy.

So…. oxy or no?

Open Help with Amphetamine Reagent Testing Results

I need help summing up the reagent analysis results. I tested amphetamine with Frode, Marquis, Lieberman, and Simon a+b.

It smells very strongly of gasoline/acetone, and there are strange effects like a decreased heart rate and high blood pressure.

Could poorly purified amphetamine produce this result? Or What impurities could it be? Or both.

Is it safe to use it?

Thanks in advance, any advice and thoughts would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

Open Help with Cocaine Reagent Testing Results

Hi reddit I'm new to all of this.

I need help coming to a conclusion of the reagent results. I tested cocaine with Morris, Marquis, Mecke, Liebermann, and Simmons.

I also did a separation test but I'm unsure of the next steps.(Do I add the reagent on the test paper where the gaps/streaks are and then add a drop of the testing liquid?)

I was told the cocaine was untouched and high quality but the effects cause stuffy nose, quick numbness in the throat, and inablity to sleep.

What type of adulerants might be mixed in? I was having trouble understanding the charts. My guess is some type of amphetamines or methamphetamine.

Also, in the seperation test I added my old batch to compare with the new batch but I didn't upload the reagent testing for the old batch only the new batch.

Thanks in advance and any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated and very helpful.

Solved! Would you say both of these are ketamine? Different batches and it's the right one I'm worried about being too blue.

First 2 pictures are Liebermann, mostly brown spots but one spot turned dark black.

Second 2 pictures are Froehde, started green then got dark yellow with a yellow ring, soon after the dark brown spots came out, they could’ve been slightly red but mostly brown.

Last is marquis, mostly orange with some dark spots.

Open Can I cut fentanyl test strip in half

I have one Fentanyl test strip in a red packet can I cut it down the middle because I have two different chemicals to test. AI says you can do it with regular test strips like a pH strip but you cannot do it with immuneassay strips (drug test) has anyone ever done it?

Discussion What do tests show if drugs are adulterated ?

Hello, let's say I had MDMA which was 80% MDMA and 20% say PMMA. If I test using Marquis, Froehde & Mecke then I'd expect Purple, black & Green say.

If the substance is adulterated with PMMA then what would the Froehde do ? Will it go green or Purple ? I presume the more concentrated substance will have the biggest effect and it will look like MDMA ?

Vendor Getyourdrugstested.com not replying to email

Has anyone heard from getyourdrugstested.com?

They’ve started allowing mail in testing again and I have an address for a PO Box that I have sent samples to in the past but now they say you have to email them and get a code before mailing in.

I messaged weeks ago and still haven’t heard anything back. Anyone know anything about it?

Thanks!

Discussion Just confirming if I have any mistakes in this testing procedure

I am trying to make the absolute most foolproof MDMA test that can be done short of sending it to a GC-MS or FTIR lab (which I believe is illegal and practically impossible where I am in the US)

So, my plan would be (after washing to increase purity)

  1. Test with marquis and expect a purple reaction to identify an MD-amphetamine and rule out basic amphetamines, most cathinones, and 2C compounds
  2. Test with mecke and expect dark green to cross check as MDMA
  3. Check again with froehde
  4. Use robadope and expect no reaction or simons expecting blue to rule out MDA and PMA
  5. Perform a fentanyl test, nitazene test, and hopefully orphine test if they come out soon
  6. Perform TLC to check for PMMA impurities (maybe using mandelin stain)
  7. (this is just my extremely unecessary and cautious addition), perform a test with ferric chloride to rule out DHMA cuz of improperly sold "PMK" apparently

So I know that this still doesn't rule out everything but am I missing anything or is this about as foolproof as non lab testing goes

Discussion Is TLC the best way to detect PMMA adulteration in a sample?

I know that typical reagents get overpowered by MDMA when testing for PMMA in a mixture. I know it's fairly easy to test for PMA using robadope and similar reactions, but PMMA can easily blend in with MDMA.

Is it possible to use a TLC plate to separate PMMA and other impurities from MDMA in a sample? How can you tell that it's definitively PMMA and not just some small impurity.

And lastly, I'd assume it would interfere with the TLC plates, but is it possible to do some form of "Marquis stain" or spray on marquis at the end to detect oranges and purples separately in a test?

Open Why does Marquis show no reaction?

I’ve bought crystals (mdma) from my usual guy and Test as always. My usual setup is: Froehde, Liebermann, robadope, Simon’s, mecke and Marquis. All reactions were fine until marquis…I’ve got black, blue and no reaction from robadope as expected, but marquis showed no reaction at all. I’ve tried adding more crystals and reagent, but still…no reaction. I doubt that it’s the crystals tbh…they are from a good source and the other 5 reactions are as expected. Could it be that the marquis went bad or something? Or is this an possible indicator for Caths or something? Never had this happen before…

Inconclusive How black should Liebermann reagent get when testing for freshness and if active.

Thumbnail

The first picture bottom 3 wells has Liebermann reagent, table sugar with reagent and product with reagent. This picture was taken after 30 seconds.

The second picture bottom 3 wells is the same tray that has Liebermann reagent, table sugar with reagent and product with reagent. This picture was taken after 5 minutes.

I would have expected the sugar and reagent to turn much more black than it did. Is this normal for Liebermann or should I have had a completely black well when testing with table sugar? Is my Liebermann old or not active? I just got it last week.

Discussion Methylphenidate / Ritalin results

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Found conflicting results on Wikipedia and the wiki about what methylphenidate is supposed to look like. Wikipedia for example says the Marquis reaction should be orange-yellow. Looking at actual examples of pills that tested positive for Ritalin on drugs data I do not see evidence for this.

It looks to me that a non reaction to Marquis and an orange-yellow for Lieberman as shown in my sample (first photo) is a pretty good hint something might be Ritalin and not meth or amphetamine.

For context the second photo is the results of a pill that looked identical and tested positive for methylphenidate. The third is a fake adderall that contained meth (pill was orange, looks like no reaction Lieberman). The fourth photo is a white pressed pill that contained amphetamine, results look very similar to meth.

Please criticize my methods and results, I hope this post can help someone else.
