Hey guys! Guess who just joined the SMS club?

Post image

Looks brand new. Previous owner said it was barely used and just sat in storage for almost 40 years. Welcome to your new home buddy. Now to get some games for it!

How cool that it comes with a game built in, and it supports RGB Scart out of the box? Talk about being leagues ahead of Nintendo!

I’ve been playing NES games for over a decade and figured it’s time to switch teams and see what Sega was up to all those years ago. I’ll be sure to posit in here regularly as my SMS collection grows!

Awesome! I still have my Sega Master System since I got in elementary school.

It’s a decade older than me so a bit before my time. It’s taken me this long to give it a chance. My dad apparently had one in the early 90s but sold it a few years later because games were too expensive compared to the Amiga.

Better late than never!

Yes, that so true. The games were expensive than getting Amiga games at the time.

He tells me it was $299 (AUD) in 1990 and games were $80 (AUD) a pop. Had about 5-10 games for it including Wonder Boy, Choplifter, Bubble Bobble and a few others.

Talk about expensive, but these days money isn’t an issue for us anymore.

Wow, that is expensive.

I remember Street Fighter I and Golden Axe for the Genesis at one time cost $65 upon their initial release in 1989.

I have more  Sega Master System games than I do Genesis games.

The NES was even more and those games were $99.95. It’s no wonder Nintendo didn’t sell well at all in PAL. It was just too expensive compared to a Sega or computers like the C64 or Amiga.

Yes, the NES games were expensive here too. The most expensive game Ali got was Dragon Warrior I.

We didn’t even get Dragon Warrior here. Unlike Sega, Nintendo didn’t bother with RPGs for PAL. Sega had arcade hits, RPGs, strategy games the works. It had so much more support & all the way til 1996 too

Really? Wow. Are you in Australia? 🦘

That is true about Sega having a variety of games.

Yep, land of the roos. Postage is still expensive down here. I don’t like importing things if I can help it, usually ends up costing more than the thing I’m buying just to post otherwise

Tip for bubble bubble, there is a boss stage where the screen is black, you see only you and boss, best way to pass it is making 3 long peaces of paper and scorch them on screen where the base is. You will find how.:)

Welcome to my childhood. Pro tip: get space harrier asap. It’s super cheap, and a blast.

I’m noticing games are SO much cheaper than NES games! Just $20 a game including postage. Those clamshell boxes have definitely survived better than NES cardboard.

Isn’t it? Still got the plastic. The RF box was stuck into the styrofoam, I don’t think it had ever been taken out.

I still have my on the shelf behind me. I don't have any of the packaging, I was probably in the 2nd or 3rd grade when this system came out.
