Native Linux Configuration File settings? (Linux Mint, Flatpak)

2 Upvotes

Hello,
I've recently started using Lutris (the flatpak version, on Linux Mint Cinnamon) for launching my collection of DRM-Free games, its quite nice so far.
However, I've added a couple of native linux games to the launcher, and they seem to be using a separate configuration file location (or something) compared to when I run them through the OS directly. Like, I can do all kinds of setup (for example, adding mods to a mod launcher) while running it straight from the terminal or file browser, but if I then close it and go to run it through Lutris, it acts like I never did any of that. I can then redo the setup in Lutris, but differently, and if I close it and run it again through Lutris it'll remember what I did, but if I switch to running it through my OS it'll be back to the original configuration.

Does anyone know what's happening here, and if I can change it so that my games use the same configuration files inside and outside of Lutris? I've mostly resorted to having the configuration-heavy ones like OpenMW (a source port of Morrowind) and Knossos (a mod launcher for Freespace) on their own shortcuts outside of Lutris. It would be nice, though, if I could have it all in one spot!

Directx9 to DirectX11

5 Upvotes

Hello,

I am trying to play Anno 1404 History Edition (x64 & DirectX9) on Lutris (GE-Proton10-34) using DLSS5. I have an RTX 2080 SUPER and I run on CachyOS.

The game itself does not have native DLSS, so I am using the DLSS5-Feeder to fame that.

In order to use the feeder the game must support DirectX11, but that is not the case as I mentioned above.

On Windows jt's dgVooDoo2 to map the calls of D9 to D11 using D3D9.dll, but in Lutris it does not work (another post confirmed it).

Is there any solution that I can use? I've been staying for a week trying to make this work, but I could not find any solution.

Thank you!

New on Linux Mint and Lutris

3 Upvotes

I want to download the NFS-MW-BE from lutris.net

It is a wine DVD version on linux which is 4 months old. How safe is it? The install script says the .iso is from internet archive.

I just spend 4 hours on another IA nfsmw .iso files using steam, while scanning all i could but it was all waste of time. It did not work.

I am a bit cautioned as it is my working system.

lscpi crash on Lutris flatpak

2 Upvotes

When opening lutris I always encounter this problem but since I dont have much time to fix it and the only software that I run under Lutris still work even with those error, I kinda left it as it is. Now that I have time to tackle it, I'm kinda wondering what went wrong, if someone knows any solution to fix it please tell me since it's kinda now bothering me

Here is the output when I enable debugging: https://pastebin.com/p41fCrQY

Edit; I did manage to partially fix it by following instructions here: https://github.com/lutris/lutris/issues/6510

It did found my laptop's iGPU, the only problem now is it cant detect my dGPU

Mouse-look input stutters in 32-bit DirectInput game under WoW64; smooth under genuine win32 prefix (pre-9.0 Wine)

3 Upvotes
I'm just reopening the same issue I opened on wineHQ bugzilla. Can anyone suggest how we leverage latest wine version raw or with lutris for golden era games.

Mouse-look input becomes stuttery/laggy in 32-bit DirectInput game "Archangel" (2002) when run under WoW64 (unified 32/64-bit Wine); smooth under a genuine pre-9.0 32-bit-only Wine build on identical hardware/config

Wine version tested (broken): 11.17 (system package, unified WoW64 architecture)
Wine version tested (working): Wine-GE-Custom 8-26 (based on Wine 8.0-staging, pre-WoW64-unification), run in a genuine WINEARCH=win32 prefix

What's happening:
Archangel (2002, Metropolis Software) is a 32-bit-only game (PE32, i386) that uses DirectInput (dinput.dll/DirectInputCreateA) for mouse-look, with ClipCursor/SetCursorPos for cursor confinement. Under a modern 64-bit Wine prefix (WoW64, 32-bit game translated through the unified 64-bit process), camera-turn mouse movement is inconsistent — described by the reporter as "rubber-band/overshoot" and chopping, specifically on left/right (yaw) camera rotation. Character movement and other input (keyboard) are unaffected; only mouse-look is bad.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a standard 64-bit Wine prefix (default WINEARCH, i.e. WoW64) with a recent Wine (9.0+, tested on 11.17).
2. Install/run Archangel (2002) — game.exe is 32-bit only.
3. In-game, enter any menu or gameplay screen using mouse-look camera control and move the mouse left/right at a normal, steady speed.

Actual results:
Camera rotation is jerky/stutters, with a rubber-band/overshoot feel — the view seems to lag then catch up rather than tracking the mouse 1:1.

Expected results:
Smooth 1:1 camera tracking, matching behavior seen under a genuine 32-bit-only Wine build (see below).

What we ruled out (all tested, none fixed it):
- In-game mouse sensitivity slider (tested 20–299 range) and per-axis Mouse_sensitivity_X/Mouse_sensitivity_Y values
- In-game mouse smoothing option (made it worse — added lag, not the reported symptom)
- HKCU\Software\Wine\DirectInput\MouseWarpOverride in all three modes: enable, disable, force
- Disabling DXVK/VKD3D/DXVK-NVAPI entirely (game only uses native OpenGL, confirmed no D3D/Vulkan involvement)
- GPU load/vsync (vblank_mode), render quality, and resolution changes — no effect on the stutter pattern
- Confirmed not a general system/hardware input issue: mouse is smooth in other Wine games and the desktop on th

What fixed it:
Recreating the Wine prefix as genuinely 32-bit (WINEARCH=win32) using Wine-GE-Custom 8-26 (Wine 8.0-staging base, i.e. before Wine's 9.0 WoW64 unification) immediately resolved the issue — mouse-look became fully smooth with no other changes. This strongly points to the WoW64 32-to-64-bit syscall translation path (used by all current Wine ≥9.0 builds for 32-bit processes) introducing latency/quantization specifically in this game's DirectInput mouse-polling loop.

System info:
- OS: CachyOS (Arch-based), Wayland session (game runs via Xwayland)
- GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Haswell) + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M (Optimus laptop)
- Renderer used by game: native OpenGL (OPENGL32.dll/GLU32.dll), no D3D/DXVK/VKD3D involved

Trouble finding graphics card on WoW Forever

6 Upvotes

I'm trying to play the beta of WoW Forever but have been getting the error message:

World of Warcraft was unable to find a suitable graphics card

I'm using integrated graphics so wondered if that might be a problem but Classic is working fine and I've just different wine versions but none are working. Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: Turns out it wasn't a Lutris problem, the WoW forever just has minimum specs than classic and will not launch if you have less than 4gb of VRAM

Lutris error code 256 when installing some games via Windows executable

2 Upvotes

I have no idea what the issue is, but sometimes, for random games, when I try installing them in Lutris via a Windows executable, the Lutris Wine/umu process ends almost immediately with error code 256. The weird thing is that when I open up a terminal window and run umu-run with all of the same exact flags that Lutris uses when running umu-run it works fine, so the error must have something to do with how Lutris is launching the wrapper. I tried asking Claude on max effort what the issue is, and it suggested a couple of things that didn't work, then said it probably was some kind of upstream bug, and I tend to believe it since Claude works very well for sorting out Linux troubleshooting issues in my experience.

Has anyone else experienced this before and run into any kind of solution?

Below is the error log given by Lutris. Whenever I get the error code 256 issue, the log is basically identical wtih just the game name/directories changed.

WC3 Reforged Working on Fedora

7 Upvotes

Hello, due to the new campaign I gave in and bought Reforged and managed to get it running with Lutris/GE-Proton after I threw Claude at it. There were a handful of things wrong with my setup so I'll just dump the list here in case my case matches yours. The one big caveat is I was using an older GE-Proton that's missing a specific cert chain fix so Claude patches it for me but the way around it is to prob just use a later version of Wine (11.6+) and not Proton as I don't think Proton has the patch. For the curious:

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59531

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59600

I had to do four fixes with one being a duh one and the rest less so. To do anything you'll need all your prefix paths so can pull that from Lutris and go from there. There's also some logs that'll be helpful if you run into issues.

```
PFX=/path/to/your/prefix # the directory containing drive_c
W="$PFX/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Warcraft III"
# the three logs that matter
grep -E 'prism: Info: name' "$W/Logs/War3Log.txt"
ls -t "$W/../../AppData/Local/Battle.net/BlizzardBrowser/Logs/"
tail "$PFX/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Warcraft III/_retail_/x86_64/BlizzardBrowser/debug.log"
```

———

The first was the dumb, easy one as my nvidia driver just updated so I need the updated nvidia flatpak installed for that version otherwise everything defaults to software which is slow and doesn't really work. To check can run these two commands and ensure they align:

```
cat /sys/module/nvidia/version
flatpak list | grep nvidia
```

If not install whatever you're running. I assume AMD is similar.

```
ext="nvidia-$(tr . - < /sys/module/nvidia/version)"
flatpak install flathub \
"org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.$ext" \
"org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.$ext"
```

———

Second was a broken symlink that breaks WC3's menu rendering since it won't properly resolve it. Basically proton uses "steamuser" for everything while Wine uses your Linux username which caused a black screen with no music or cursor (just software mode does at least get music and a cursor). Claude just swapped the links basically and everyone seems happy.

```
cd "$PFX/drive_c/users"
ls -la # look at which one is the link
if [ -L steamuser ]; then
real=$(basename "$(readlink steamuser)")
rm steamuser
mv "$real" steamuser
ln -s steamuser "$real"
ls -la
else
echo "steamuser is already a real directory; nothing to do"
fi
```

———

Third is an easy one and was that my Battle.net client was set to close on launch instead of minimize which seems to break the WC3 server connect attempt so changing that in Battle.net settings fixed this. It didn't matter for hearthstone but does here I guess.

———

Fourth and final was having to patch the cert chain stuff in my proton version (GE-Proton 10.3 here for no real reason at all but that it's been working!) which you shouldn't have to do if you use Wine 11.6+. This is where you get stuck at the lion gates with a failed connection and it tells you to check your VPN. I just let Claude poke at this and here's what it saw and gave me the above Wine bugs which looks reasonable to me.

```
Reforged calls CertCreateCertificateChainEngine with the current 88-byte CERT_CHAIN_ENGINE_CONFIG, the version Microsoft extended with a dwExclusiveFlags field. Wine accepts only the 64- and 80-byte forms and fails the call with E_INVALIDARG. The game falls back to walking certificate issuers by hand through the prefix’s system intermediate store, which in a fresh prefix is almost empty, so validation fails.
It took upstream two goes. Wine 11.5 added the missing field to its struct definition, which fixed callers passing 88 bytes and broke callers still passing 80 — reported as a Diablo IV regression. Wine 11.6 accepts all three sizes and is correct for everyone. Valve’s proton_11.0 branch has picked up neither, so Proton and GE-Proton still sit at the original behaviour.
```

If you're stuck on proton/GE then can try the patch that's working for me. The actual python script does manually modify your crypt32 library for just WC3 with whatever Claude spit out as I didn't review any of it so you know caveat emptor lol

https://gist.github.com/orbsthetics/521e32c68c2ae65e748f531a9518782f

```
chmod +x wc3-crypt32-patch.py
# look without changing anything
./wc3-crypt32-patch.py --prefix "$PFX" --check
# apply it (backs up the stock library alongside it first)
./wc3-crypt32-patch.py --prefix "$PFX"
# undo
./wc3-crypt32-patch.py --prefix "$PFX" --revert
```

If any of this matches your case then hopefully one of these fixes it for you and if not hopefully someone whines upstream and it gets someone to really look at it. Good luck!

LibraryBridge 0.1.0: move a Windows game library to Linux

Thumbnail

LibraryBridge helps move an existing Windows game library to Linux without moving or redownloading all the game files.

It supports:

- Steam: scans your libraries and moves Proton data from NTFS to a Linux filesystem while leaving the game files in place.

- Lutris: scans your drives for GOG and standalone Windows games, finds the game files, and adds them to Lutris.

The scan finds the relevant files automatically. You review the proposed changes before applying them. Steam data is copied and verified, and the original is kept as a backup.

Repository and downloads:

https://github.com/amcdev7/LibraryBridge

Linux x86_64. ARM64, Flatpak Steam, Steam Deck Game Mode, and automatic exFAT repair are not supported yet.

I maintain LibraryBridge and am looking for testers moving existing game libraries from Windows to Linux. Please report issues in GitHub with your distro, kernel, filesystem, Steam installation type, and redacted output.

No se activa el GameMode en Cemu instalado en Lutris

Post image
