Music/Entertainment They officially killed CityWalk

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Got to Citywalk last night around 7pm for the movies.

First of all there was barely any indication on where you are supposed to go after you get down the garage. Once we found the security checkpoint, it took us about 10 minutes to go through as there were only two lanes open (on a SATURDAY NIGHT).

And by “security” I mean the two 19 yo waiving people through a metal detector, can’t say it made me feel much safer than before. 0/10 experience, not worth the hassle at all.

You also can only exit back to the garages through the same security check point. So if parked at Jurassic for the movies, you need to walk all the down to NBC grill and walk back once again.

"Stewart said she intends to make the theater, which requires extensive renovation, into a space for the whole community. 'It’s an opportunity to make a space to gather and scheme and dream together…We want to make it a family affair, something for the community. It’s not just for pretentious Hollywood cinephiles.'"

Music/Entertainment Cities in the LA area (excluding LA itself) that have hit songs about them

We know LA itself has its fair share of hit songs (the most famous of which plays at Dodger Stadium after every home win), but what about the other cities in the area?

For this topic, only count actual cities that are independently governed and not under the jurisdiction of LA City Hall (sorry, Hollywood, South LA, and the SFV). Also don’t count unincorporated areas of LA County, like East LA.

The only one off the top of my head is The Little Old Lady from Pasadena. I know there are bound to be some obvious ones I won’t believe I missed.

Music/Entertainment The Weeknd canceled his show after one song.

He lost his voice and after apologizing made a quick exit.

Edit: Just to clarify a few things. I was in a rush when I posted. He tore or blew a vocal chord, tried to push through it but couldn't and had to make a hard call. I know it's extremely disappointing for everyone, but I hope people have some sympathy, this is his livelihood after all.

Music/Entertainment Being Frugal in Los Angeles (downtown and East LA)

Update: Thanks everyone for all the detailed information. I wasn't expecting this much response! Y'all have made me feel welcome even!

I’ll be in Los Angeles Labor Day Weekend for a house sitting gig (unpaid) I’ve never been to LA and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity. I’m thinking my biggest expense will be gasoline, (from AZ) so trying not to overspend on restaurants or whatever.

I’m told I can take a train into downtown. I’ll be in East L A . What are some good taco spots or other places to go? I’m not Mexican but I speak Spanish tolerably. Have been to Mexico many times.

I’m a Gen X model old Punk. Was thinking to go to Chinatown just to see the scene of historical madame Wongs and all. Can anyone recommend places to see live music that won’t have a $30 cover charge? (Maybe I’m exaggerating, but I have not been to LA before.)

Also, recs for local coffee shops, thrift shops? And please warn me of places that are going to be unexpectedly expensive to stay away from

My only definite plan is to visit the Cheech Marin museum . I believe it’s in Riverside. Any advice on getting there?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Music/Entertainment Does 92.3 only have 10 songs?

Not trying to be rude, but I swear no matter the time of day I drive, it is either 4-5 remixes/mashups of various rap songs which are mediocre in my opinion, or the same few songs over and over.

I have a 5 minute commute, leave work at various times, and no exaggeration I have heard ‘Sunshine’ by lil flip at least 8 times in the last 10 work days in my short ride home. The other two times were the same Drake song.

Is it just coincidence or is their music selection just really minimal??
