How de we know that the person who would have used photoshop to create this image in the past isn’t the person who used AI to create this image?

Then that person can be fired and replaced by an actual creative.

What kind of creative do you think they are going to hire to Photoshop an old lady with an oxygen tank at a slot machine?

Or do you think they are going to hire a photographer to set up a photoshoot and hire a model to create the picture?

What kind of creative? A graphic designer man.

To do a quick Photoshop?

I imagine they'd do more than one. You wouldn't hire a chef to make a single burger each week.

You think you need a professional graphic designer to do a Photoshop of a woman at a slot machine?

Doing it in Photoshop and using AI isn't very different in terms of skill needed, AI is just faster.

It is different. Your argument seems to be that efficiency trumps all else. It fundamentally devalues all creative endeavors if there's an easier, cheaper, faster way to do it that's good enough. This single Update image is a small manifestation of the larger issue. And the image is the joke a lot of the time as well. Arguing that this can be AI is the first step before firing the Update joke writers. Then the sketch writers. And on and on and on.

Do we need artists to make movie posters? Or children's books? Or animation? Or motion pictures? Why make the case for eroding an industry that begs for uniqueness and human perspective in order to make us connect with something?

I just finished a rewatch of Across the Spider-Verse and it took forever because I kept pausing to look at the backgrounds. They could have been AI if the filmmaker wanted to save some time, but would I have taken so much time to marvel at the detail and effort that went into them if so?

This Update joke isn't Across the Spider-Verse, but when the industry starts replacing people at any level with AI, fewer people will aspire to do this kind of work until it's all AI and we aren't able to get something like Spider-Verse again. Hand drawn 2D animation has already been almost completely replaced, which sucks. Do we want to encourage that extinction to occur in other realms as well?

No one is getting into graphic design so that they can Photoshop a stupid image.

If the only reason you aren't replaced by ai is because people are staging boycotts, then you may as well quit.

If across the spider verse had to be done in one week and didn't have a budget of $100m, , they wouldn't have done it the way they did. Different projects have different needs.

You are really worried about people Photoshopping stupid images going extinct?

Remember, a slippery slope argument is a logical galaxy for a reason.
