I write supernatural horror set in the High Desert of Southern California, where the towns are small, the desert is huge, and the weirdest thing you hear about on the news might not be the weirdest thing that actually happened.
My story is called The Desert Son.
Jamie Ramirez returns to Hesperia after nearly ten years away to bury his mother. He expects grief, old memories, and the usual small town bullshit.
What he doesn't expect is to find himself pulled back into a world he spent years trying to escape.
There's something wrong with the local police. A warehouse in Apple Valley has a connection to the lost city of Atlantis. The local coffee shop has a few unusual regulars. And the Mojave has things living in it that don't appreciate people poking around in their business.
Jamie knows this world because he used to be part of it. He was the guy who kept the monsters in line.
Now he's back, and the desert isn't done with him.
The Desert Son is a dark urban fantasy with supernatural horror, desert noir, and a healthy dose of dark humor. Think strange local legends, questionable life choices, ancient things hiding in plain sight, and the creeping suspicion that the weird story your uncle told you might have been true after all.
I'm writing this for anyone who loves horror rooted in real places, stories that blur the line between folklore and reality, and monsters that are sometimes less frightening than the people trying to control them.
