Football Context to Michigan and Washington wins
Michigan and Washington's losses to Minnesota definitely took some of the shine off of our wins. Still, beating a ranked Michigan team at the Big House and winning in Seattle are notable wins.
Going back to the 2021 season, Michigan has beaten 31 straight unranked opponents at home (counting the WMU game as a win, which, ya know). Michigan is 4–4 against ranked teams in that stretch, with those four losses being:
- 2024 #3 Texas (#10 Michigan at the time)
- 2024 #1 Oregon (Michigan unranked)
- 2025 #1 Ohio State (#15 Michigan)
- 2026 #17 Iowa (#18 Michigan)
Michigan beat #2 OSU in 2021, #10 Penn State in 2022, #2 OSU in 2023, and #11 USC in 2024.
In other words, Iowa is the only team not in the top 3 to won at Michigan Stadium in the past 5 seasons (WMU game aside).
Meanwhile, before our game, Washington was 28–3 since 2022 at Husky Stadium, with losses coming to #1 OSU, #6 Oregon, and...Minnesota.
Of course, neither 2026 Washington nor Michigan are the same caliber of their past squads. Still, Michigan Stadium and Husky Stadium are tough places to get a W, and Iowa utterly dominated Washington. Impressive, especially for such a junior squad.

Football Visiting Iowa City for the Purdue game (Nov. 14) while writing a novel inspired by the Hawkeye Wave. Would love your recommendations!
Hey Hawkeye fans!
I’m making my first trip to Iowa City for the Purdue game on November 14, and I would love some recommendations from people who know and love the community.
A little background: I live in Pittsburgh, work in professional baseball, and have recently started writing my first fiction novel, tentatively titled Then Why Are We Waving?
The story is centered around the Hawkeye Wave and the incredible connection between Kinnick Stadium, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, and the people of Iowa City. It follows several different characters whose lives intersect through a single Iowa football game, exploring how seemingly small gestures can have a lasting impact on people we may never meet.
The story is also personal to me. My family has gone through some challenging experiences with one of our young children (he is 3.. and kicking butt fighting a brain tumor), and that has given me an entirely different appreciation for the families, nurses, doctors, and communities who come together during difficult times.
I’ve always been moved by the Hawkeye Wave, and as I started writing, I realized I wanted to experience it firsthand rather than simply research it from hundreds of miles away.
I’ll be traveling solo and spending the weekend exploring Iowa City, meeting people, and hopefully getting a better understanding of what makes this place so special.
I’d love your thoughts on a few things:
Game day and tailgating: Where should I go to really experience the community? Are there particular tailgates, neighborhoods, or traditions I shouldn’t miss?
Bars and restaurants: What are the places that feel quintessentially Iowa City? I’m less interested in tourist attractions and more interested in the spots where locals gather.
People and stories: Are there longtime fans, local business owners, or community members who embody what makes Iowa City special? I’d love to meet people and hear their stories.
The Hawkeye Wave: Beyond what everyone sees on television, what does the Wave mean to you personally? Are there perspectives or traditions surrounding it that outsiders might not appreciate?
I’m not coming to promote a book or ask anyone to share something they’re uncomfortable discussing. I genuinely want to learn about the community and make sure that if I’m going to write a story inspired by this place, I do it with the care and authenticity it deserves.
If anyone would be willing to grab a coffee, share a beer, or let me stop by their tailgate, I’d be grateful for the opportunity.
Really looking forward to visiting. Thanks in advance, and Go Hawks!

Baseball College baseball: Harris steps away from game
Unfortunate update on Brett Harris joined the Iowa baseball team earlier this summer after Ole Miss rescinded his offer to play baseball for the Rebs. Sounds like the team is doing all they can to let him stay around in the way that's the best for him, but a heartbreaking story all around

Football Go Hawks and Hold my Beer…
Yo. Go Hawkeyes. I think the only threat remainder this year is a pesky Northwestern. Maybe Wisky Badgers on a stretch.
Anyways, here is the thing…..
I grew up in IC, IA.
I grew up going to Kinnick. Then Carver. Which is different story point is,
I bleed black and gold.
Tonight after the win I wanted send to friends the Iowa Fight songs of various versions.
The Google machine is telling me:
Bob Dylan Never sang ‘Fight for Iowa’ and was a radio hoax from KRNA in the 1980’s.
I disagree with Mr Googles.
Have I led my whole life a lie? Am I in The Matrix?
Did Bob NEVER sing the words: ‘Fight for Iowa’
Did I grow up in such a vacuum?

Football My experience Saturday as a Buckeye....
Wow.
I've been fortunate enough to watch the Buckeyes play away games in some incredible venues and experience the traditions of other programs. I've been to Virginia Tech and experienced Enter Sandman. I've been to Camp Randall and Jumped Around to start the fourth quarter.
I've been to three national championship games and watched the Buckeyes win two of them — 2002 and 2024. I've been to a lot of different stadiums, and I've talked to a lot of different fans.
But this weekend was, by far, the most epic experience of them all.
I waved to kids in the hospital.
You see it on TV. They tell you about the pink locker room. They show you the crowd. They tell you about the hospital across the street. But you don't really understand it until you're there.
It sounds cool on television. That's about it.
Imagine your neighbor's house. That's how close the hospital is to the stadium. You literally cross the street and you're there.
Then the first quarter ends.
You look around, and all of a sudden, everyone in the stadium — fans, players, coaches, officials, media, everyone — turns toward the east, facing the hospital tower.
And they wave.
You look up at the hospital and slowly start seeing people waving back.
And that's when it hits you.
It's not just the kids. It's their parents and loved ones. Their caretakers. The doctors and nurses who have sacrificed their time to be there, helping these kids through what may be the worst experience of their lives — a serious illness, a major disease, or whatever brought them into that hospital.
On TV, it's a great moment. A little bit of pageantry. Everyone waves, everyone smiles, and then we go back to the broadcast. The analysts say whatever they're going to say, and we get back to watching football.
But experiencing it in person is completely different.
Wow.
You realize there are children in that building who may not get to walk back out of it.
You realize that, for a few minutes, this might be one of the happiest moments of their day.
Maybe their week.
Maybe their entire hospitalization.
And it isn't just about the kids. It's about their parents, their families, and the people caring for them. It's about the doctors and nurses who go home at the end of the day carrying the weight of everything they've seen.
For those few moments, an entire football stadium stops caring about football.
Everyone turns toward those kids and says, in the simplest way possible:
We see you. We're thinking about you. You're not alone.
College football is an amazing experience, and every school has traditions that make it special.
Saturday, I got to see another glamorous Buckeye victory. I got to watch what is essentially a human cheat code play football. I got to sing Carmen Ohio in my opponent's stadium.
All of that was incredible.
But I did something far more meaningful than anything I've ever experienced at a sporting event.
I got to wave to a bunch of kids at a time when they needed it most.
And I'm beyond grateful that I got to experience that. Thanks for letting me be a part of it.
-Go Bucks!

Football OSU Postgame - We did not play it safe, I can live with this loss
As a LIFELONG Hawk fan, we grew up walking distance to Kinnick and used to sneak into games as a boy in the 90’s
I’ve been through the highs and the lows of the Ferentz era and all I want to say about this game is that we did not play it safe and so I can live with this loss.
Lester and Parker both called great games. We opened the offense, threw it deep, went play action, had wide receivers open.
We blitzed more than I can remember and were aggressive on D. The players just didn’t make the plays. The times I’ve been the most frustrated with Ferenrz is when we don’t even put our guys in position to see what they can do. That was not the case in this game.
I hate to lose, but Ohio State is a natty contender and we just got beat. I can live with that.
