A little behind-the-scenes FOTG work in this one.
I wanted to show a few different stages instead of only posting the finished results. In the video Iโm walking through how I handle my bags when theyโre moving into fruiting conditions, then showing a grain-to-substrate transfer, and finishing up with a grain-to-grain restart after one bag showed contamination.
That last part is exactly why I like documenting the whole process. Things donโt always go perfectly, and learning how to recognize problems, keep questionable material separated, and move forward cleanly is just as important as showing off a beautiful final result.
Lots of repetition, patience, clean work, and paying attention to what the culture is telling you. Thatโs where the real progress happens. if there are any questions of what else you guys would like to see please let me know!

Been putting a ton of work into the culture library lately, and the lineup is getting ridiculous. ๐ฌ๐ฅ
Current projects include:
Albino Bluey Vitton โข Nat Moon โข JF ร PE โข Golden Billy โข Galactic Gorilla 223 โข A. TX PE6 โข FOTG Shakti โข Golden Oracle โข Steel Mag โข Green Toque โข Smokey Da ๐ป ISO
And that still isnโt everything.
There are a few projects staying behind the scenes for now, including ENIGMA, along with some other genetics Iโm documenting before I I privately show more ๐
Seeing the mycelium develop this thick and healthy is exactly why I enjoy this work so much. Different genetics, different structures, different personalitiesโand thereโs always something new to watch.
A lot more FOTG documentation is coming. ๐๐

I pull the lot of them as they had been aborting. Went away for the weekend and now they are shooting up the sides?!
Just leave them be and see where they go?

Been watching this one closely and Iโm pretty impressed with how fast itโs moving like it always has over the years! This is liquid culture on brown rice grain and these pictures are only about 8โ9 days in.
The mycelium is already pushing hard through the grain, looking thick, healthy, and consistent across the bag. I love seeing the difference strong culture can make when everything comes together right.
Still has some work to do, but for barely over a week, Iโm definitely happy with where this one is headed. ๐
Anybody else running brown rice lately? Iโd love to see how yours is moving.

This grain bag of Blue Meanie's is taking it sweet ass time . No sings of contamination. Its been about 5 weeks. It stalled very early, so I decided to B&S with a 1 inch by 1 inch square and it started to colonize again.

The two blocks on the right accidentally got sprayed by isopropyl. I picked up the wrong spray bottle in a rush. With some care they are coming back an should produce again. Overall i got a pretty good amount out of these AIO's a total of 6OZ dried. Im very pleased with my first grow.

A few favorite shots of Emerald Gate ร Space Monkey. The ivory caps catch your eye first, but the folds along the stems and the detail underneath those caps deserve a closer look. Same cluster, different anglesโplenty to appreciate in each frame.
Which shot stands out to you?

Frustrated with AIO bags that havenโt lived up to the hype? Fruit of the Gods offers a different option for your next project:
๐ Two sterile grain bags
๐ Two sterile substrate bags
๐ Two agar-tested liquid cultures
Grain, substrate, and cultures packaged separately, with care put into preparation and testing. No setup can guarantee success, but you deserve clear information about what youโre starting with.
Mycology should be a rewarding learning experience. These are the core supplies to get your project started. You may also need impulse sealer, binder clips, clear tape, and good pair of scissors INSTRUCTIONS โฌ๏ธ

Genetics. ๐๐
Clean your workstation โ Sanitize your table, tools, gloves, flow hood, or still-air box before beginning.
Wipe down the grain bag โ Clean the outside of the bag and injection area with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry.
Prepare your culture syringe โ Attach a sterile needle and flame-sterilize the needle until red hot.
Allow the needle to cool โ Do not touch the sterilized needle to anything after flaming.
Introduce the liquid culture โ Inject the culture through the self-healing injection port on the grain bag.
Alternative method โ If your bag does not have an injection port, work inside your clean-air setup, carefully open the top, introduce the culture, and immediately reseal the bag with an impulse sealer.
Agar can also be used โ Agar transfers should be performed inside a properly cleaned still-air box or in front of a flow hood before resealing the bag.
Let the grain colonize โ Place the inoculated grain bag somewhere clean and out of direct sunlight at the appropriate temperature for your mushroom species.
Leave the bag alone while it establishes โ Avoid repeatedly handling or opening it.
Break and shake โ Once a substantial portion of the grain has colonized, gently break apart the colonized sections and redistribute them throughout the bag.
Allow the grain to recover โ Put the bag back in its clean location and let colonization finish.
Wait for complete colonization โ The grain should be evenly colonized before moving to the next stage.
Clean your workstation again โ Sanitize your work surface, gloves, tools, grain bag, and substrate bag before opening anything.
Prepare the substrate bag โ Spray the outside of both bags with peroxide and allow the surfaces to set for a couple minutes than wipe excess.
Open the bags inside your clean-air workspace โ Minimize the amount of time either bag remains open.
Transfer the colonized grain โ Pour the colonized grain into the substrate bag.
Mix thoroughly โ Gently work the grain throughout the substrate until it is distributed as evenly as possible.
Form the block โ Settle the mixture toward the bottom of the bag and gently press it into an even, level cake.
Close the bag โ Fold the excess bag material neatly and secure it with binder clips, or seal it if your bag/setup is designed for sealing.
Let the substrate colonize โ Keep the bag closed and allow the mycelium to spread through the entire substrate.
Do not disturb it unnecessarily โ Avoid repeatedly opening, squeezing, or checking inside the bag.
Wait until fully colonized โ The substrate block should be well established before transitioning it to fruiting conditions.
Prepare for fruiting โ Once fully colonized, adjust the bag according to the fruiting requirements of the species you are growing.
If your bag design calls for air openings โ Make clean openings in the appropriate location under filter patch on both sides and cover them with suitable breathable filter tape when required for that species and setup.
Introduce appropriate light and fresh air โ Follow the temperature, humidity, light, and fresh-air requirements for the specific species.
Leave it alone and observe โ The biggest key is avoiding unnecessary opening or handling once the bag is established.
The biggest rule: CLEAN โ COLONIZE โ MIX โ COLONIZE โ FRUIT.

I see a lot of people getting frustrated when an all-in-one bag goes bad and the entire project is basically done.
Thatโs one of the reasons Iโve always preferred working with the different components separatelyโgrain, substrate, and the culture youโre documenting. It gives you a chance to actually watch each stage on its own instead of putting everything into one bag and hoping for the best.
The biggest thing I tell people is donโt rush it. Let your grain tell you when itโs ready. Pay attention to how it looks, give it time, and only move forward when everything appears healthy and established.
Iโve been putting together some beginner-friendly FOTG setups built around that same idea: two grain bags, two substrate bags, and two culture selections so people can better understand the process without relying on an AIO bag to do everything for them.
Clean work. Patience. Observation. Consistency.
Thatโs really what it comes down to.

Had to give Chocolate Gumby its own post because this run had way too much personality.
The colors, thick fruits, funky cap shapes, and those huge wavy expressions were all over the place. Every time I looked at it, I found another fruit doing something completely different. ๐
I grabbed a few clones from the standouts and collected some spores because there are definitely a couple expressions here I want to keep an eye on. Thatโs probably my favorite part of this hobbyโseeing something interesting show up and wondering what the next round is going to look like.
Chocolate Gumby definitely earned another run. ๐ซ๐
What would you guys have picked out of these to keep working with?

I feel like Iโm tripping but I think the whole lot of them are reducing in size over the last 24 hours. Is shrinkage a thing?

Little behind-the-scenes look at what goes into FOTG.
Today was all about LC workโchecking everything over, staying organized, and putting time into the cultures going into the community packages I already have in motion. Thereโs a lot more that happens on this table than what makes it into the final pictures.
No sales pitch here and nothing being offered in this post. Just documenting the work, the clean-up, the plates, the cultures, and all the hours that happen behind the scenes.
I actually love days like this. Throw some music on, get locked in, and just work through the list one project at a time. ๐งฌ
Appreciate everyone who follows along and supports what Iโm building with FOTG.

Still donโt have a confirmed ID on this one, so for now Iโm calling her Sunshine. โ๏ธ๐
Something about those warm golden caps, pale edges, and the way the whole group looks together immediately reminded me of morning light. Every section has its own little variation, which made this one especially fun to photograph and document.
Sometimes you know exactly what youโre looking at, and sometimes the mystery is half the fun. Until I can narrow it down more, Sunshine is sticking.
Definitely one of those fruits that makes you stop and look twice.

Not as good as I wanted. I will learn from this. Its not a loss so I changed how long I soaked the bottom block. Added some more time on the soak. We will see in a few days.
