General Pre approval advice

I’ve had my first and only credit card with chase (freedom). I will make around three years with the card, always making my payments on time, and a credit score of 736. I never got a credit increase for whatever reason but I’m ok with it since i mostly just do one purchase of my cats medication or a deserved shopping day. I recently got approved for the Sapphire preferred and a Slate card. I the sapphire offered a higher spending which I would prefer but i don’t know how taking a new card will affect my score. Any advice?

Data Point Got two cards when I wanted one, can I close one without harming my credit?

Long story short, I've been on a credit journey for a few years, my second stretch goal was to get an Amex Gold, which I got to, but also at the same time I got an Amex Platinum. I don't relish the idea of paying both fees, but I'm ok with that if that's how it goes, but in under one year with both of those would it cause my credit to drop if I closed the gold?

Thanks! Happy to answer any additional questions

General Received Fraud Letter From TransUnion About an Authorized Hard Pull

I got a letter in the mail that reads as follows.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us at TransUnion. Our goal is to maintain complete and accurate credit information. It's our commitment to you.

Re: PROSPERWEBBANK, PROSPER WEBBANK, 221 MAIN STREET SUITE 300, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 94105 PH: 8666156319

We want to make you aware that the above company obtained your credit report in what was deemed a fraudulent application. As a result, TransUnion has deleted the inquiry from your credit report.

If you would like further details about this situation please contact the company directly. As a credit reporting agency, we collect and store your financial data submitted by creditors, but we do not have the specifics as to how this particular situation occurred.

What Happens Now

In response to the information sent to us, TransUnion:

• Deleted the inquiry from your credit report.

We understand identity theft can be a scary issue, and we're here to help. As part of the fraud resolution process, you are entitled to a copy of your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which is attached below. We know this issue can be challenging and this summary is designed to help you recover.

Your Rights

The Fair Credit Reporting Act outlines the rights that identity theft victims, and those who believe they are victims, have. Here is a quick overview of the attached Summary of Rights.

You have the right to:

• Add a fraud alert to your credit report

• Get a free copy of your credit report

• Obtain documents relating to fraudulent accounts or transactions from a creditor or other business

• Obtain information from a debt collector

• Block fraudulent information from your credit report

• Stop a company from reporting information resulting from identity theft

To learn more, please read the attached Summary of Rights in full.

However, I recognize the hard pull and the postmark date from when I tried to accept a preapproved loan offer and was declined. So I logged into the lender website, and sure enough, the account under my email has been closed for suspected fraud.

Is it okay to just leave everything as is assuming I don't plan any future business with this lender? Not gonna complain too much about a hard pull getting dropped off my report. But are there any negative ramifications that could pop up from this?

General 750+ credit score, never been able to take a loan

Hello! I’m really hoping to get some sort of insight on my situation. A few weeks ago I purchased a second car just as a project. I have never taken out any sort of loan before and I figured maybe this would be the opportunity to add it to my credit history. The car was 4k and had the cash (ended up paying upfront) but I thought a small manageable loan would be a great place to start. Not a single loan request was accepted. I tried my personal bank, my credit lines, third parties, auto lenders, absolutely nothing. The responses have varied, most notably saying I don’t have enough credit history to approve me. Also stated lack of installment loan information (how can I get loan information if I can’t get a loan..?)
I’m 24 right now, and I’ve had my first line of credit for 6 years. I opened my second line of credit 2 years ago. My FICO score is 760~770. It was 790 before taking out the second card. I have never once missed a payment. Right now my total debt between the two cards is $53 and that’s from this month. I’ve used my cards for flights, game consoles, concerts, so on and paid them off quickly. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong or what to do differently.
For context also, my partner has a 650, shorter credit history, several lines of credit, collections on record, and a repo and he WAS approved for some of the loans I had attempted to get.

General Big discrepancy with score

I was just messing around and decided to check for a pre approval for the venture x. Knowing it would be a no, just curious what the letter would say.

As expected, it was a no. The letter initially says too many recent accounts opened, which makes sense. But then when I went to the bottom it showed my score from transunion at a 619. Which shocked me. With their credit wise app that uses TU it’s a 691, with Amex and Experion is a 714. I also just leased a car a month ago and it was a 685 (mid to high 680s) pulled from multiple places.

Any idea why it shows so low?

General Question regarding CL Increase Request Denial From Discover

Yes, I know that Discover is being taken over by Cap1 but my account has not transitioned yet and I have no date for that. Still working on Discover platform.

First just some data:

TU Fico8 751

Experian Fico8 747

Equifax Fico8 752

I have a perfect payment history, but a short one (oldest card is 2.3 years and considered fair x Creditwise), have a thin file: Total credit of $8.3K over four cards.

I started with a secured card with Cap1 which became non-secured. Then got a Discover card (7/25) with, then a Savor then an American Express (the last two both 3/26) Highest amounts are $3300 Savor and $3,000 AmEx. Amex increased w/o request by $2K a month ago. Savor increased by $300 about a month ago w/o request.

I have NO mortgage on my credit as I paid for my home before I got into credit stuff even though I'm older. I have no auto loan, student or personal loans on my credit. I was one of those that paid for everything in cash, and paid off my college loans years ago. I do not rent. Income is from SS and a rental (triplex) property. In other words I have virtually no debt so my debt to income ration is really low and amounts to whatever is on my credit cards. I pay for everything now with credit including food, gas, taxes, 4 lines of insurance, utilities etc. No bankruptcies no history of unpaid debt.

So I applied for a CL increase. I wanted to up it to $3K-4K. I am waiting another 5 or more months to get another card OR a personal loan as I have a home repair that's going to cost around $25K. My thinking was that I would probably try to get a personal loan first, then apply for the Wells F Autograph with the 21Mo. 0% transfer/no interest. I absolutely do not have the cash to pay for this outright, but can probably dig up maybe $16K of it.

Discover denied me a CL increase and some of the reasons I totally get. No prob.

The denial letter has three reasons on the front, and four on the back. The ones I really don't understand are:

--"Too few satisfactory trades"

--"Low credit lines including mortgage on open accounts"

--"Lack of recent installment loan information"

--"Too many accounts with balances" (I pay them off in full per statement every month)

Can you help me understand what's actually happening here so I can correct course/plans?

Thanks so much.

Rebuild Credit Rebuilding after bankruptcy

I’m looking to rebuild my credit after bankruptcy. I picked up a single credit card with a $2,000 credit limit that I plan to pay off each month. Is this enough, or do I need a second card?

Car Loan Charged Off auto loan and Bankruptcy

I was paying on my $23k auto loan for over 6 years and have hit some really hard times..

My loan matured 3 months ago.. but I became 120 days past due and it charged off with about a $2k balance

Not sure if they’re going to try and repo, it has 150k miles. I’m probably going to file for bankruptcy.. should I tell the bank this now.

Will it help preventing a repo.. or push them to act fast?

Rebuild Starting my credit rebuild

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Ran into some hard times with Covid and became unable to work. As a result my credit is bad. I have no fico score so have to rely on the vantage scores starting out. I was recently approved for disability after years of waiting and am aggressively trying to reclaim my independence. Here is my plan for rebuilding, please let me know if this is the best course of action and what I can expect along the way.

Step 1 - Get a secured card, already done and on the way, new account does not show yet but that is what the inquiry and score drop were from. I was approved for a Capitol one, I deposited $499 for a limit of $600. Pay it in full monthly before due date to show good habits.

Step 2 - Pay off the 2 smaller collections by Christmas. I will try for pay and delete with these two, are the companies ones known for this? The larger one should age off in March, should I pay or wait?

The goal - is a RV loan for my retirement by May next year. Looking at ones around 40k and planning on putting 20-25% down to improve odds of approval and bring payments down since I am on a fixed income now. Do any of you know which fico model RV lenders use? And is this time line at all realistic?

General App vs Actual Score Differences

Why is there such a difference in the score you get from your apps and the score reported to lenders? And I’m not even referring to CK. I applied for a personal loan with what my apps said was a 645-ish credit score. TransUnion-643, Equifax-645, Experian-643. And these are scores given from these companies own, individual apps. My NOAA’s state that my credit scores are TransUnion-580, Equifax-603, and Experian-577. It’s not good credit, I know. I promise I’m very much aware. So please, no sermons on what I should have done 10 years ago. But can anyone just explain the difference in the information we’re given versus the information that lenders are given?

Rebuild Please help me boost my score, what's the best way to increase my score? What should I do?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello all, I want to know what's the best way to boost my score? I currently have 2 credit cards (capital one and discover) that I use fully and pay in FULL every month.

I have 1 self credit builder account and 1 kickoff account and they do help boost my score.

I have 1 account in collections and it's a Verizon account that I really don't remember. I tried multiple times to report that I was a victim of identity fraud but obviously it's still on my account. It's about 1,500 and I think the first delinquency was back in 2023. If I knew earlier, I would have kept all my old accounts instead of closing them.

Please let me know what I should to to have my score increase, I've attached a lot of the things so you can view and help. I got the paid subscription of Experian and the scores are way different from credit karma and kikoff.

I know a few are going to fall off my record in 3 years. Let me know if there's anything else I should show to get some help. I appreciate all the help and thank you so much in advance.

General Credit score down 42 points, not sure why?

I got an email from Credit Karma today saying my score dropped by 42 points. I don't really use Credit Karma as I know it isn't the best, but that email shocked me, so I wanted to do some investigating.

The only new notification is that my Affirm Inc account(s) was closed (3 notifications last reported from 10/2025 and 9/2025). I've used Affirm a few times in the past and never had an issue with making those payments timely and paying them off fully. They are closed with $0 balance remaining. I normally check my FICO score through Capital One and that score has not changed - it actually increased!... by one point. My Transunion dropped 42 points and Equifax 38.

I am just a little concerned and wondering why those closures would bring my credit score so far down. I know that when debts are paid off, your score drops, but these were paid off last year and the original amount of each couldn't have been more than $200. I do have a high credit utilization, but that's been the case for a while now (planning to pay that off with my end of year bonus) and there hasn't been any huge effect on my score. No missed payments in years either.

Is there anything I can do now to help this? Will it end up affecting my FICO score? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I apologize in advance, I'm not well versed in the credit world so if I'm leaving out any important information, please ask!

General “Delinquent” payments after completing a mortgage recast

Hi folks

I had never missed a mortgage payment, and was ahead enough on my payments that I was able to re-cast or re-amortize my mortgage, effectively cutting my monthly payments in half and keeping my low interest rate- seemed like a no brainer.

Well, the process of this seemingly simple task was nuts. Once I submitted the paperwork, the team handling this, for the next month, would unapply previous months payment for days at a time, then re-apply, then unapply again - several times. The whole process took almost three months, everytime they in-applied payments, it triggered their payment delinquent team to spam me with calls and letters, everytime explaining I’m not behind on payment please check the notes etc etc. Sometimes I was 2 months back, sometimes 3- then 3 days later I’m caught up, following day I start getting calls again so I check and I’m 93 days past due, you get it, it was horrible.

So eventually they seem to figure it out and all is well, except that my credit takes an 85 point hit bc of my delinquency’s.

So I called them, explained again and mention that I was never actually behind on payments it was just their process, they said they will review and update credit reporting agency’s if needed.

So I just got the letter in the mail that they reviewed and believe they are reporting everything accurately. What are my next steps here? Am I doomed to see this hit for the next 7 years? I worked pretty hard to get my credit over 800 and now it feels all for naught- thanks in advance

Rebuild Secured Credit Card to begin to repair score? Need some advice please.

Hi everyone!

I feel really embarrassed already coming to Reddit for advice, but just want to see if someone has been in a similar situation and what they did. PLEASE try not to drag me through the coals over the dumb choices I already made (I can’t change it and I already resent myself for it.) Really just looking for advice on where I can go from here. Please be kind lol

A bit of my history: I am 25F, and when I was 20/21 I was addicted to drugs and alcohol for 4 years and made really poor spending decisions. Got a credit card and ran it up (credit limit was $2000 and I ran it up to $1,500.) I eventually got calls from the credit card company and ignored them, they did a charge off (I know ignoring them was a dumb thing to do but I can’t change it now.)

Anywayyy, I got sober a while ago and have been slowly trying to rebuild my life and face things I was running from for a long time. My debt got sold to a collections agency and I ended up making payments to them to pay it back (I have also heard this isn’t a good idea / bad for credit, but again, it’s already done and I can’t change it.)

Now my credit score is absolutely atrocious, like 550 atrocious. (Vantage 3.0 is 670 but I read on here it’s not reliable). So, now getting to what the title says, I’ve done some research and it sounds like my best bet from here is trying to get a secured card and carefully try to rebuild my credit. I will take any advice here on how to rebuild and just maybe financial advice in general from here on out.

Would love to hear from you, especially if you’ve been in a similar situation. Thank you!

Collections & Charge Offs NetCredit Accelerated Amount

Hi everyone, I took out a loan with NetCredit for the amount of $2,050 just under a year ago. Fast forward, my account is called due at $2,810 two weeks ago. I was going through financial hardship and now am in a much better paying job and can afford to pay it off on a plan. I have biweekly payments set up, and I assume the debt will be sold shortly due to the status of the credit line.

Has anyone had experience with NetCredit selling debt and how to navigate the collections of it? I’ve seen mixed things on Reddit about their process. I’m wondering if it makes sense to wait till they sell the debt and get on a plan with the collection agency (I am a NJ resident).

If anyone has dealt with them at this point, please let me know your experience below, thank you!!

Rebuild Is financing a vehicle good for rebuilding credit

I currently have a credit score of 580 (fico score)

I have never been approved for any kind of credit card until recently. I couldn't even get the capital one secured card because I ended not paying it and getting the account closed. I recently got approved for 2 predatory credit cards (total visa and indigo mastercard). I'm going to try and get the discover it secured card next. I also just financed a truck for 25k with a cosigner (11% instrest which i think is awesome because I financed 2 vehicles from a buy here pay here before and both had 20%+) i was just wondering if the new vehicle loan is gonna boost my credit significantly or if im dreaming.

Collections & Charge Offs Debt collection

I got a call and subsequent email from a company trying to collect 2 debts from a rent to own company that I got a couch and washing machine from in 2017. Lol.

My question is I believe since this debt is originally over 7 years old they have no leg to stand on other than harassing me about it within the limits of the law.

They can't report this to my credit at this point right ?

Collections & Charge Offs Collections help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Back in 2024 I was in college at ASU and in November my boyfriend of 7 years passed away suddenly. I guess I shut down and I vaguely remember talking to my counselor or someone about taking time off school. Well a semester turned into a year and now I'm here.

I've moved twice and got a new phone once.

I was checking my credit report on credit karma and I have $2041 that was sent to collections.

What can I do about this? My score has been dropping for a while now but I assumed it was my credit card usage.

I feel like I'm coming out of a fog finally and I'm beginning to freak out because I've done so much damage to my credit.

Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thank you

Success Closed my Merrick card and the old late payment turned into “ND”

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Merrick was one of my first cards back in 2016. I had one 30 day late in January 2020 and it has been haunting me ever since.

I recently closed the card. I was done paying an annual fee on a starter card I outgrew years ago, and my profile is strong now with much better non-subprime cards.

After I closed it, the late payment changed from a 30 day late to “ND” for no data. That was a surprise, since it was only a few months away from dropping off anyway.

The first screenshot is from my Experian report dated 9/14/2026. The second is from today, 10/11/2026.

So far it has only changed on Experian. I haven’t seen a change on TransUnion or Equifax yet.

Just sharing in case it helps anybody else. Maybe closing an account can make a late payment go away.

One thing in the second screenshot: the status line reads “Open/Never late,” which commenters may point to since the post says the card is closed.

General tanked credit score by mistake

Hey guys! I've been dealing with some pretty serious health problems and in doing so I absolutely forgot about two credit cards. I've always been really diligient with my cards and not carrying a balance since I was 18 but this year has been rough. My score has now dropped from 770 to 630. I've paid off the cards but is there anything else I can do? How long will this take to improve?
