Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - October 12, 2026

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

  • Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.
  • [Mixcloud](http://www.mixcloud.com) is the preferred place to post mixes. It allows you to include your tracklist and transition times, allows unlimited uploads, and is generally more geared towards DJs. If you don’t want to use Mixcloud, be sure to include a tracklist.
  • Please ask for specific feedback or list parts of the mix you liked/didn’t like. Hopefully you are looking for input on specific tracks or transitions.

Example post:

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

Have trouble sticking to a specific vibe/genre entire set

So I have been mixing a year and a half and built up a library with a lot of diversity in edm genres. I mainly mix house/ukg (alot of different subgenres I'll do tech house, uk garage/house, deep house, melodic house, bass house, uk bass, etc)

When doing a set or mixing I really have fun bouncing between different genres. Usually I can gradually transition into those different genres I'm not doing crazy jumps between tracks, but I have trouble focusing on one genre/sound for an entire set.

I just love too many different genres, and where I know this is a problem is when it comes to marketing myself. I can gradually go from a deep house to tech house/uk bass sound and maybe drop a few melodic tracks in there but I feel like I then loose out on marketing value and confuse people on what style I mix.

What’s the psychology behind prepping your set the day before the gig 😂

I’m playing on Friday and honestly could not be bothered to dig for music right now. Probably won’t be until Thursday I decide to. I feel like the pressure makes me dig better lol. Nothing too serious I’m playing at, just techno events at local venues - if I were playing bigger events maybe I’d feel different. But does anyone else also deal with this lol?

Hardware Helping with my first controller

Sup guys, from time to time a friend of mine invites me to play some music on his pair of CDJs and always encourage me to download more musics (my USB isnt being updated for more than a year) but i find kinda hard to get the search going since i dont have a controller that i can play the friggin music, other thing is also want to practice beat matching i dont get too anxyous while im in front of a complete CDJ kit.

Im not planning on turning a full Blown dj or something like this, i just want something to make me do research and do something while im bored of my racing sim.

Im divided on 2 controllers:

a DDJ FLX4,cheaper, same layout as the CDJ, but i dont have a laptop, only desktop (making it hard to move it to somewhere else), and i find the tempo slider rather strange and i cant beatmatch correctly, (always go tooooo much up or down, sry im noob)

Numark Mixstram Pro Go, more expensive, ive never touched something from numark or used Engine OS(only ddj400, FLX4, Traktor S2, XDJ RR, CDJ2000 and CDJ700), BUT i dont need to buy a laptop just for playing outside my room.

Im very tempted on the numark side but i dont know how the tempo slider is for beatmatching training, from picture i find it rather small, and how well built it is (specially the screen/ui)

Sorry for the long text :)

Live stream audio question

Is it normal to have to turn the internal serato master volume (not the controller) but on the software all the way up past 3pm in order to get the OBS levels to peak around -2.0 / -4.0db. That’s what google is saying but I don’t know if I should trust it

Anyone have experience with open decks in Austin TX?

I've been DJing for a few years. I've done two opener sets solo and work as an audio tech for a DJ. There I have been able to practice playing a couple songs during weddings. I finally found the confidence and motivation to go to all the open decks in my area. I know there's not a huge expectation but I still want to make a good impression and have a good time. Normally they're about 20 minutes sets.

Should I take that time and play entire songs and transition at outros or would it be time better spent showcasing my range of music and transitioning into the more recognizable part of a song and just going a verse or two and then jumping into another song?

Difference between high pass filter and low knob?

So, basically I wanna know what would be the difference if I turn the high pass filter on (which lets high frequincies and blocks low frequiencies) and just turning down the low knob.

Hardware CDJ-2000NXS In 2026?

What’s up everyone!

I spotted a pair of original CDJ-2000NXS at a local music shop priced at $1,200.

At $600 per deck, is $1,200 total a good deal for the NXS in 2026? Or would I be much better off skipping them, saving up a bit more, and picking up an RX3 instead?

For context, I mostly want a solid gear setup to practice on club style hardware layout without relying entirely on a laptop screen.

Appreciate any thoughts or advice from anyone who has used both!

PartyBox AI Sound Boost Troubleshooting - What worked for you?

Hi fam!!

I have a PartyBox 520 (purchased it knowing it's not a substitute for a proper PA system) and am currently troubleshooting it's AI Sound Boost feature that cannot be disabled. During the build ups it will drop the volume when the bass kicks in then shortly after pump the bass back up to an ungodly level that has me scrambling to turn the controllers volume down, then back up during the build up, then back down, then up... then down... I read a lot about the speaker before purchasing it and this didn't pop up everywhere leading me to believe it's solvable? I am looking for other homies experience with this and or any ideas or input that might lead me in the right direction. I appreciate you.

I have:

-Turned the controllers "trim" down to keep the lights well within the green.

-Keep the source controller's volume at around 25%.

-Adjusted the speaker app EQ to both neutral and also the V curve (both had no effect, v curve just sounds better.)

-Adjusted the gain dials on the back of the speaker itself down to 25%.

-Disabled Bass Boost feature as recommended.

-I am currently running RCA to XLR (Two separate cables, not a y split to single XLR) into the back of the speaker, one XLR into each port. Unbalanced connection.

My thoughts to try:

-A better controller with XLR outputs to create a balanced connection, and just a better controller in general as I'm using the very beginner affordable FLX4.

-Going through a mixer then out to the speaker.

-Try a Y cable going RCA to a single XLR.

-Try playing at a higher volume somewhere safe to experiment to see how noticeable the volume swelling is. I'm really reaching with these last couple ideas, I know...

Hardware Best file format/usb drive combo?

As I previously posted, I am readying myself for my first open deck event, and am building a collection of music (purchased and downloaded from Bandcamp + SoundCloud), and I want to know what the best USB drive to handle all my music would be?

I’m downloading most of my stuff in FLAC, so running out of space may be a concern down the line, however my current strategy is keeping all of my music on iCloud and then downloading the set-specific songs on the thumb drive before the gig.

I’m also looking into getting a USB-A + USB-C thumb drive for future gigs in order to make the iCloud to USB process a bit smoother. So far I’ve found a bunch of drives that vary wildly in price. There is a BetaTheta $269 1TB for sale at Guitar Center, but the ones I’m focusing on are budget friendly ($20-30ish range at Walmart). Is there a difference in these that will make or break a set?

Hardware Will CDJ's ever get replaced as the standard?

Let's say for nightclub gigs / festival sets / etc.

Curious about what you think may happen in the next 10 years.

Will we ever get to a point where the whole interface, cabling, etc could be replaced ?

Just got an RMX-1000! Any tips and tricks?

Hey everyone!

I just bought a Pioneer RMX-1000 and I'm absolutely loving it so far! I've heard so many good things about it, and since it's no longer being made, I decided to grab one when I got the opportunity to buy it through someone I knew.

I've connected it to my XDJ-AZ, but I'm still pretty clueless about everything you can actually do with it. 😅 I know there are loads of effects and combinations to play around with, but I'd love to hear how you guys use yours.

Do you have any favourite effects, combinations, or tips for getting the most out of it? Any tricks that really make a difference when mixing house or tech house would be especially appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Technique Help with transitioning between tracks? ( tech house )

Beginner DJ, always find transitioning between tracks coming out poor and/or repetitive sounding

I’m quite confident that I understand:
-mixing in key
-phrasing
-the functions of the EQ dials
But I can’t seem to put this together to make good sounding mixes.

Just curious as to wether people had general tips on when’s good times to mix tracks in/ out or if there was times to avoid mixing tracks in/out.

Also how to make these mixes sound more smooth, e.g. prevent clashing or repetitive sounding transitions throughout a set

Also, do DJs keep a mental collection of different types of transitions? For example
-Intro outro
-Double drop
-Switching the drop
And should I be going away and trying to build my own collection of different types of transitions I can implement?

Finally what might a good practice day as a DJ look like?

I apologise this is information overload I did try to keep it clear and concise. Any time given and advice is so incredibly appreciated. Many thanks

Mp3 or WAV

now before people start going at each other, I mean Mp3's downloaded straight from Beatport, not some shitty YT converter. Surely a 320 kbps mp3 from Beatport is undetectable in a club system? What are your thoughts?

Music From Streaming to USB DJing, How Do I Get Started Without Spending Money?

Hey everyone! 👋

I currently DJ using a Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 with rekordbox. So far, I’ve mainly been streaming my tracks through SoundCloud or Spotify on my laptop.
Now I’d like to prepare a USB stick so I can eventually play on a standalone DJ system without needing my laptop. However, I’m not really familiar with the whole process yet.

I’d appreciate some advice on a few things:

How do you properly prepare a USB stick for DJing? Do you simply copy tracks onto it, or do you need to export them through rekordbox?
What’s the correct process, from downloading tracks to having a USB stick ready to use on a standalone player?

Where can I legally download tracks for free? I’d like to build my music library without having to pay for every track on Beatport or similar platforms.
Are there any websites, platforms, or artists that offer free downloads in good quality?

Are there any important things I should know about USB formatting, file formats, or compatibility with standalone DJ systems?
I mainly play psytrance, darkpsy, and tekk.

My goal is to understand the whole process and gradually build my own music library without spending much money at the beginning.
I’d love to hear how you do it and any tips you have for someone making the switch from streaming to USB DJing.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

FLX4 Black or Graphite (dark matte)

Which one do you think looks better? I personally like the matte finish. Haven’t seen any discussion on this yet. Hence, I came up with a post.
