I believe there's a strong element of goofiness and entertainment as well.

So it's like bodybuilder guys showing off their muscles, yes, but doing it in a way that showcases their confidence and playfulness.

Tim Holland's drag performance comes to mind.

The guys in this sub still aren’t ready to hear about how more straight women prefer tom holland in drag to shirtless bodybuilder

66

u/plotthick 22d ago

They can't believe women about anything

2

u/greenyellowbird 22d ago

It's bc they are a bunch of liars. Case and point, dudes w giant trucks. They don't actually think women are attracted to that kind of peacocking bc we do think it's overcompensating for something. They know the only attention they are getting are from other dudes.

We are all as wet as that stage

This performance lives rent free in the back of my mind. I uh, learned some things about myself that day.

u/KittyGrizGriz 22d ago

As a woman I agree. I’ve never been attracted to beefy muscly body builder types, with necks so huge they can’t turn them normally. I’ve always been attracted to long-lean swimmers-divers bodies.

0

u/kingleotard 21d ago

Did you say muff-divers bodies? (🤣)

100%. I met my wife wearing a woman's skimpy Halloween outfit. Not in drag, just the outfit, I thought it was funny. Apparently she did too lol.

Women love a guy who is comfortable with who they are. And nothing quite says im comfortable than myself than sporting a beer maid outfit.

16

u/mysecondaccountanon 22d ago

The amount of times I’ve heard from my straight friends who are women say that that’s like the hottest thing to themmmm

u/SchoolCrossing 22d ago

Is this how Zendaya and Tom Holland met? She was on Lip Synch Battle as a panelist or judge?

11

u/Slight-Pound 22d ago

She was a participant playing Bruno Mars in the same competition, so she was blown away not only by his performance, but also by how soundly he defeated her. I genuinely think LipSynch battles struggled to maintain itself because Tom Holland raised the standards so high no one else coming after could match it, lol.

6

u/mysecondaccountanon 22d ago

Apparently the first time they met was for a screen test, but I’m guessing the lip sync battle was close-ish in time to that due to it being in 2017

3

u/Rosary_Omen 22d ago

I mean, I do NOT blame her. His performance was amazing!

12

u/ShinyAeon 22d ago

...I didn't know I needed that video in my life until today. Thanks for introducing it to me!

u/human8060 22d ago

I mean, DID YOU SEE HIM?!?

0

u/TravelingPoodle 22d ago

Honestly. Which woman does this? 😆

76

u/Antique-Respect8746 22d ago

A personality and interpersonal skills are a lot harder to access than "gear" and misogyny.

2

u/cheeseburgermami 22d ago

LMAOOO YOU SAID IT 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

21

u/persephone7821 22d ago

Honestly I was just thinking about that today.

Playing cyber punk and the straight romance option when you’re playing as a woman is river, and I thought. Why couldn’t they give women a sexy romance npc like they gave men? All the female romanceable npcs are considered very sexy by the male player base. But the women got…river. Nice guy but the overly muscle man thing is just not it in terms of sexiness to most women.

So it got me thinking, the whole game is pretty much built around the male gaze. So this is what men think women want, and that’s just not it. Of course some women do find it attractive, but most in my experience aren’t attracted to men who look like they can’t wipe their own ass.

3

u/cheeseburgermami 22d ago

I think you’re exactly right about your theory, and it applies to so many more productions than Cyberpunk. lol like it’s actually offensive. So glad you pointed this out bc you put into words what I’ve been struggling to say for a very long time. Bless

3

u/tilesmeller 22d ago

Cyberpunk offended me quite a bit. I'm a bisexual woman with quite a varied taste. I found the choices so boring. They made this incredible world and best options they came up with were muscly man and tomboy girl. I was expecting so much more. Why no trans or non-binary options? At least a real flamboyant techno dude and a girly neon robo chick. It's a game in an over the top world with crazy characters, but then romance options are meh.

6

u/YouAndSunset 22d ago

No I’m ready, go for it

2

u/fallfairsuitee323 20d ago

It's true, the degree of muscle men seem to think women want is not appealing to most. The opposite is true for women: we assume men want us to be thinner than they actually do. Toned or some muscle is what's attractive to most. The gym bro look is also not only less physically attractive but is often a turn off bc of the association with hyper-macho men who tend to be sexist and/or misogynistic. Really just being fit and healthy.

lol I appreciate your answer and citations, but I was just making fun of the whole “ X group isn’t ready to hear (insert topic here) “ trend. But I do like your earnestness so thank you

2

u/fallfairsuitee323 19d ago

Lol oops! Well I hope you enjoyed

3

u/cheeseburgermami 22d ago

**Most men in general still aren’t ready to hear 😂

4

u/lastreadlastyear 22d ago

Straight women would prefer tom holland in drag to anyone else least of all a body builder.

5

u/CrustyBubblebrain 22d ago edited 22d ago

Just watched it and it was one of the sexiest things I've seen in a while

1

u/TheAggressiveSloth 21d ago

I just gooned all over after watching this

0

u/Usernameunavai1ab1e 22d ago

92

u/NiltiacSif 22d ago

were animals of course we have courtship rituals, they’re all defined by culture in different ways but we all do them as humans

To be fair, the people of Wodaabe might be curious to study you and your courtship ritual of paying for dinner on a first date.

Most humans follow societal norms because we know intrinsically that being an outcast is dangerous. This even goes for something like finding a mate/dating, so there's a real possibility that some of the Wodaabe men find their ritual stupid or embarrassing, but go along with it because the alternative is to be ostracized or left without a partner.

I only say this because I was born antisocial and it took a lot of years of imitation combined with trial and error to figure out how to blend into society. Deep down, I still question a lot of what humans do and find most of it weird or disgusting.

4

u/NiltiacSif 22d ago

People who question the way we do things are the people who can help make society better. It’s a good trait to have!

3

u/tilesmeller 22d ago

I bet they would find it hilarious how our men dance

2

u/cheeseburgermami 22d ago

Literally so many things humans do is weird or disgusting. And I also believe that there are plenty of people, namely people in high positions of power, who would be considered as having antisocial personalities if they were to be honest in a mental health diagnostic eval.

I like the way you think, homie.

2

u/NiltiacSif 22d ago

I absolutely love this kind of stuff! Anything to do with how different cultures evolve is infinitely interesting to me, especially how it shapes behavior and values. Our environments change so much about how we think and go about the world. I could talk about it forever.

Right, there must be so much we don’t know! And even for some ancient cultures that we know fairly well, we still don’t know everything and have to interpret a lot from whatever evidence there is. If I could have anything in the universe, I would want to have a way to go back in time and just experience what it was like, just day-to-day life, in different societies. How different or the same people were compared to modern day. That would be so cool!

1

u/yukumizu 22d ago

What do you think the guys with the expensive car is doing? The courtship dance.

15

u/llilaq 22d ago

I can actually see that work. A confident partner that makes you laugh is just amazing. I love that my husband dares to dance in public (not so common anymore in the Western world!) and that he jokes around.

These facial expressions are so crazy to us that it may be a turn-off but if you are used to the practice, it's a great way for them to showcase their humor.

8

u/Shantotto11 22d ago

Did you mean Tom?

6

u/Salute-Major-Echidna 22d ago

That was pretty hot. Also Joseph Gordon Leavitt. My two favorite on that entire show.

3

u/Scherzkeks 22d ago

Tim?

30

u/Weak_Fee9865 22d ago

Yes. Tim Holland, the actor from Tarantula-man

10

u/Cute_Bacon 22d ago

Not Tim Curray, the actor from Command & Tarantula?

2

u/plotthick 22d ago

Actually him too

2

u/cheeseburgermami 22d ago

Made me laugh harder than it should’ve 😂

3

u/LovesRetribution 22d ago

Like body builders in achool girl outfits.

1

u/JoyRose31 22d ago

Yeah, I think after a certain point. Traditions become just remembering where you were, or what you came from.. this might not be practical use anymore but like long necks or chubbiness was beautiful in some cultures. Chubbiness meaning health, I could see this probably being some sort of showing whites of eyes, and teeth as a sign of health or beauty.. I'm no anthropologist though. Most 'beauty' things come from some sort or reason. Make sense in some way if your break it down, even if it looks ridiculous. Like the huge bottom lips started off as looking kissably pouty, then got out of hand.. same with big booties, prob a sign of health also, you're not thin. As well more cushion for.. you know. Also why being thin was attractive, was a sign of health.. most beauty things are either health, or sex based in some way.. big boobs are usually lil of both ..Too big then you have back problems, etc. Too much of a beauty thing become Unhealthy, then becoming unattractive ..too fat, too thin, Too big a butt, boots, lips. Its all odd but comes from some place of sense at one point .
