shit-tons are a measure of volume (262 gallons) so it doesent count for this.

Imperial Fucktons are about 1.6 (metric tonnes) Metric Fucktons are heavier than that at 2.2 (metric tonnes)

so this beast can lift 4545 Metric Fucktons. thats really impressive.

264 gallons of your shit weighs a ton? What are you eating?!

its not about what is being carried but how much liquid, its all based on old English measurements of wooden casks.

a Barrel is a small cas with around 32gallons in it a Hogshead is twice that at around 63 gallons Then a Butt is about 136 gallons. then the largest cask is a tun at around 252 gallons.

these can all be turned into a "load" generally meaning how much liquid you can bring.

example: Fredrick can bring you a barrelload of wine on his back, but if he hitchess up the horse he can deliver a buttload.

now for the old proto germanic work "skit" meaning both to split or deficate.

so in this use Fredricks customer wants a tun of wine but Frederick only has the Tun cask at his vinyard and he has no wagons big enough to bring the whole thing. so he decides to deliver a skit-tun of wine (the equivalent amount but delivered in two butt casks)

and since language evolves the word skit turned into shit and tun turned into ton (old English long ton).

hope it helps clear things up.

im here for you, guy.

That makes a lot of sense. So a shit ton is two butloads.

4

u/GhastlyGhost2008 Aug 27 '26

Thus a butt can load half a ton of shit.

Basic American diet

One gallon is about 8 lbs. 264x8 is close to 2000 lbs, or 1 ton. Your shits would average 1 lb which isn't insurmisable.

I did the math and surprisingly you’re right on. Also I’m probably on some lists now.

I we weigh it as a shit ton of steel (since it's a steel ship), a gallon-equivalent volume of steel is roughly 65lbs (somewhere around there.

262 gallons of steel would be 17,030 lbs or 8.515 tons.

So that crane can lift 1,174.4 shit tons of steel.

That math ain’t mathing

I prefer the metric fuck ton.

1

u/SloanWarrior Aug 28 '26

I mean, metric is great if you want to subdivide accurately, but who on earth wants a millifuckton?

Not that you asked. But the difference between a short ton & a ton is this:

Both a “short ton” (US) and a “long ton” (Imperial) are 20 “hundredweights.”

A U.S. “hundredweight” is 100 lbs, so a U.S. ton (aka a short ton) is 2,000 lbs.

But, in the imperial system a “hundredweight” is…112 lbs, making the imperial ton (aka, a long ton) 2,240 lbs.

And if you do the math, you’ll see that 10k tons is actually 11.2 short tons, but I’ll forgive them for rounding.

And if you’re curious a metric tonne (1000kg) works out to be 2204 lbs…just a bit less than the imperial “long” ton.

Anyway, a “hundredweight” being 112 lbs is one of the funnier quirks of Imperial measurements to me. (It’s because a hundredweight is defined as 8 stone, and a stone is 14 lbs, making a hundredweight = 112 lbs.

Why the fuck are there THREE tons all around the same weight 😭

2

u/Raise_A_Thoth Aug 27 '26

Bro he literally just explained it 😅

5

u/AltPrimeth Aug 27 '26

Still technically 1 shit ton.

2

u/NotTukTukPirate Aug 27 '26

I asked Google how many shit tons in a butt load and it said:

Because a buttload weighs about 1,000+ pounds and a shit ton weighs around 2,000+ pounds, one shit ton is equal to roughly 2 buttloads.

1

u/AlternativeAd307 Aug 27 '26

Still a better system than imperial

1

u/MaverickN21 Aug 27 '26

Must be a butt load of shit tons!

1

u/Ote-Kringralnick Aug 27 '26

A shit ton is a unit of volume. I calculated it a while ago for fun, though I can't remember what the answer was.

1

u/Disgod Aug 27 '26

So... Is a fuck ton a unit of weight then...?

1

u/srobbins250 Aug 27 '26
