I'm probably going to get dragged but honestly I agree. People are congratulating this like chickens, cows and pigs aren't treated the same way. Why was anything they did different? Because it's a dog?
Yeah, the distinction that is made is completely arbitrary. The same people in this thread who would be outraged at seeing dog farms are more than happy to support the industry that subjects those other animals to the same fate
Because dogs are household animals, the saying is "dogs are a mans' best friend" not "cows/pigs/chickens are a mans' best friend". We've bred dogs to obey us and help us hunt and give us comfort, we've bred cows/chickens/pigs as animals to eat. They (farm animals) can be highly intelligent animals but that's just how it works. I personally wouldn't slaughter them (farm animals) but l love to eat, so...
In Korea owning dogs as pets is recent thing. They mostly viewed dogs similarly to cows and pigs being raised for food rather than a family member. Just because it’s not your way of seeing it doesn’t make it wrong
Respectfully, I wasn't talking about just Korea, i was talking about the idea in general because you never mentioned korea, the way you mentioned it sounded worldwide. But if we are talking about Korea then it's simple why they are changing, it's because they are adopting western ideals. The west can be very persuasive in the east, especially in democratic countries like japan and (S) Korea (I personally don't know what NK is doing).
ironically, people shit on korea for their heavyhanded handling of drugs, but korea's culture was actually very interwoven with homeopathy prior to the american takeover and the pressure from america during their war on drugs. you can still see this in its attitudes toward food being seen as medicine, acupuncture and the like.
korea's current extreme views on drugs such as weed actually comes from the bush administration's pressure for the korean government to heavily criminalize them, changing how the korean people view them.
so basically, yeah. i think a lot of the ethnocentric people here would be shocked by how much of their issues with non-western cultures actually come from their own countries.
I agree that we cannot view all animals through the same lens since humans are emotional creatures. However, as anyone who has raised pigs or cows would know, they are by no means inferior to dogs in terms of emotional capacity
Horses have transported man for thousands of years. Have taken man into battlefields and have stood by man through hundreds of generations.
Yet when it's time for man to name his best friend he says it's a dog??! Those animals are a fraud. One day we'll all wake up from the matrix dogs have put us in...
