"The standard girl weakness" you gotta be out here flexing on us. 😭😭 The average adult woman cannot do a single pull-up. The ability to do 7-8 pull-ups easily puts you in the top 1% of women with regards to upper-body strength. Just being able to do 4-5 would still put you in the top 3%. At 10 pull-ups, you're probably in the top 0.5%.

Most adult men can't do that many pull-ups. More than most.

That's what I'm saying, I think most untrained dudes can only do like 2-3.

I'm 37 and have been working out 4 days a week for the last 9 months, 6'3" and 205lbs, and I just got to the point where I can do 2 full ones. No cheating though, arms all the way fully down again.

So yeah you're not wrong at all, but I'm also old soo...

You’re also pulling a good amount of height and weight compared to smaller people so don’t be too hard on yourself. I can do more pull ups but I’m only 5’4 145 so have a much lighter load lol 2 is good progress! Keep at it!

I'm 36 and don't work out and I can push close to 20. But I also have the advantage of not a ton of weight to lift up and down.

I'd wager the biggest reason most adults can't manage 3 is most adults are overweight or obese, and even lazier than me.

Do you take creatine and warm up properly before? I find the creatine helps endurance in super intense exercises like pull-ups. You can also get a boost in strength from caffeine that you can use to speed up progress.

I stretch and take a scoop of creatine yep, and protein after and in the morning

Most modern men can’t do a single one. Most don’t have enough muscle for it.

I find it alarming that so many people are out of shape

2

u/jednatt Jul 16 '26

Well, most people are out of shape, but it's also way easier for a 120lb guy to do pull-ups than a 200lb guy, regardless of shape.

To be fair, unless they’re strength training, pulling something like 150lbs straight up without conditioning would be hard. It’s why bodyweight exercises are fine for most people to start out on especially if you’re overweight.

I can do about 3 atm, but I'm also a fair bit heavier than average.

Really? I'm a skinny scrawny-ass guy and I can. Then again I suppose I have less body weight to be lifting lol.

Oh I would bet over 50% of men over 30 and under 70 (to remove the elderly), cannot do a single pull up.

In the action film these men just die. "Hold on Derrick! I'm com---oh."
