Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - October 2026
Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.
You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Results 100% Puerto Rican results+pics
I am 100% Puerto Rican and my ancestors have lived in my hometown since before it was officially founded (200+ years) per my genealogical research. I was expecting more SSA based on what I know about my maternal side and am a little disappointed in the lack of genetic groups but I am pleasantly surprised nonetheless.

Results African American from Mississippi
These are my father's results. Mostly expected, except for the 2% native Brazilian ancestry. I think there's two main sources this could've come from.
One explanation is an enslaved Caribbean ancestor brought to the US (also explaining the Canary Island ancestry). Indigenous Caribbeans ultimately came from Amazonia, which could explain that connection to Brazil. I actually lived in Brazil for a while, so I find this theory pretty cool!
Another ties into our family's oral history, which posits we have some distant Florida Seminole ancestry (my Grandfather was from the Florida/Alabama border). While Seminoles are native North Americans and not from anywhere near Brazil, I don't think Ancestry is amazing at distinguishing different types of Native American DNA.
Y haplogroup is R-BY34213 (R1a), MT haplogroup is unknown.

Results Ayisyen šš¹šš¹ results
- 46% west African
- 34 % Central African
- 20% European
For context, we are a country of many firsts. The first black republic in the world, the first country in Latin America, the first in the West to permanently abolish slavery, and (I think) the most Afro-descended population on the continent. At the time of our revolution, a large portion of our population had been born in Africa. This was due to the extremely short life expectancy of enslaved Africans (around 7ā15 years), a reality also seen in Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, and many other colonies.
The French also mixed heavily with the Afro-majority population, often through rape, as was the case elsewhere. However, whites were so few in number compared to the afros they made little impact on the overall demographics. By 1790, the mixed-race Haitian population outnumbered the whites.
Given our history and overwhelmingly African ancestry, we see race differently. In many countries across the Americas, African ancestry is despised, and routine colorism exists through attitudes and expressions like āmejorar la raza.ā In HaĆÆti, however, African ancestry is celebrated, and calling lighter skinned Haitians words like blan is taken as disrespect.
Colorism in Haiti has historically manifested itself differently: light-skinned Haitians have often been assumed to be wealthier or to come from a more privileged economic background, because this was often the case during colonial times. Today, there's more nuance, as a significant portion of the elite is Black.
For most Haitians, class matters more than race in everyday life. But far above both, our nationality comes first. šš¹šš¹

Results Updated Ancestry results vs 23andMe
My updated results are mostly similar to the previous ones and are now a bit more in line with my 23andMe results. On Ancestry the African regions were slightly reallocated but they didn“t change, just a couple added Central, Southern and East African regions at small percentages.
For the non African dna, the English now matches at about 4%. I think ancestry replaced the 2% Netherlands with Southeastern English. I believe the Germans in Russia is now just Northwestern Germany at 1% while 23andMe gives me 0.4% Western European. And Ireland is now 2% (previously 1%) vs 23andMe 0.8%.
My 1% Northern Iraq/Northern Iran was removed and I can“t tell if it was replaced by anything but the 2025 DNA ancestry hacked had it at 0.69% which was in line with the Levantine 0.70%. The other trace results never showed up on my ancestry.
The journeys didn't change, which I appreciate, they match up between platforms quite nicely I“d say.
Never had too much info on my ancestral heritage so I can“t speak too much on the accuracy of the tests, but after about a year of research they taught me a lot.

Question / Help i need help on how and if i should approach a potential fit for my biological dad
BACKGROUND
to make a long story short, iāve been searching for 6 years and did ancestry DNA in 2020 with only a possible third cousin match. fast forward to a month ago, i got a possible y cousin match on 23andme at 199cm, but i know there could be other relational possibilities. i reached out, but he wasnāt that responsive and didnāt give me any info so i searched his name and found a memorial facebook post of his maternal aunt. the post listed that she would be missed by her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews that matched my 23andme match and the sister thatās listed on his facebook. then the post mentions the deceaseds cousins. it lists a bunch and then has a bracket of where theyāre from (usa) and then the last cousin has a bracket of the uk where im from.
i decided to go through facebook of the UK cousins name as if the 23andme mach and i are second cousins, then my dad would be a first cousin of one of his parents and this guy could fit tnat. i found a guy that matches the barbados roots, london area, and more specifically, the place where my mother was possibly living at the time. i think i look like him and his other daughters but i know you canāt go off of looks and sometimes you see what you want to see.
to confirm this is the right cousin thats listed, i went through his friends and searched for then other cousins thats listed in the memorial post and found one lady that matched one of the names.
THE PART I NEED ADVICE ON
i messaged the cousin uk man was following to ask if shes the one thats reference in the post but since we arenāt facebook friends, it will probably go into her requests and she wonāt see it. sheās active on facebook a lot, so should i send her a friend request in hope that she sees my message? i messaged her as itās less stakes than messaging the potential dad and if i can confirm this is her, then this confirms the guy is the one thatās also mentioned.
should i message this guy too and send him a friend request? or should i wait awhile as iāve applied for help from a search angel and i donāt know if iām related to my 23andme match through his maternal side. i donāt know how the search angles would be able to pinpoint who my dad exactly is without contact or guess work as recent records arenāt available due to privacy reasons. even if this guy isnāt my dad, it would be helpful to rule him out. should i message him after i confirm his cousin is the one referenced in the memorial post? theres also his older daughters i could message as i assume theyāll be more active but i donāt know if thatās appropriate. what else should i do? i donāt want i spook anyone of. this is really stressful and i keep looking at our photos and comparing features.
THINGS IVE ALREADY DONE
- ancestry test
- 23andme test
-uploaded to my heritage
- uploaded to family tree dna
- uploaded to gedmatch
- waiting for 23andme data to compare this second match to my highest match on ancestry through gedmatch
- applied for a search angel
- currently iāve started to build out my 23andme matches family tree on family tree
