Saturday Night Network just confirmed AI Photos was a Mikey Day/Streeter Seidell sketch.

u/Alarmed-Outcome-6251 Nov 18 '25
Any thoughts on the unclaimed sketches? A writer who isn’t on social media?
I’m curious if The Couple Who Just Hooked up and Murder Press Briefing were Dismukes.

So, the new writers, other than the one sketch that Flodman and Gay co-wrote, haven't gotten anything on the show so far?
None of their sketches are getting picked at the table read or getting picked but cut after dress rehearsal I guess.
3
u/memesistential Nov 18 '25
Flodman and Gay got credited?
1
u/Elegant_You3958 Dec 10 '25
I thought they got a credit on Inventing Spanish but I guess I was wrong.

u/EbmocwenHsimah "Cause these men ain't what?" "SHIT!!!" Nov 17 '25
The bad haircut sketch from last night was written by Ashley Padilla, Allison Gates, Kent Sublette and Allie Levitan.
On her Instagram story, Ashley’s also thanked the Groundlings for “letting me perform this sketch probably too many times”, so it’s cool to see how this bit originated!

u/samraeduke Nov 15 '25
Idk who wrote the Pinwheel skit, but I bet they have a toddler in their life 😂
9
6
u/thesmallprint29 Nov 12 '25
I think we can also safely assume Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell wrote Newsroom.
15
u/thesmallprint29 Nov 12 '25
I mean, Jeremy Culhane basically confirmed Mikey Day wrote Pinwheel on Instagram. It's also a direct adaptation of Mikey's almost 20 year old YouTube sketch "What Am I? What Am I?"

u/RiJuElMiLu Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25
Today I rewatched He-Man amd Lion-O This one had to also be Mikey adapting "What am I", right?

Have we given up updating this now?
6
u/memesistential Nov 05 '25
Nah. Just lazy.
7
u/Medium_Apartment_747 Nov 05 '25
Would it help to crowd source this (maybe in the comments?)? I look forward to seeing who the writers are after each week's episode and happy to contribute if I see on writer Instagram stories
13
u/memesistential Nov 05 '25
Don’t worry. I’ve already sourced the credits. I’ve just been busy with other stuff to update the thread at the moment. I’ll probably update it after the Nikki Glaser episode.

Is the John Higgins guest credit because of characters he helped write had bits or is he actually guest writing for Update?
5
u/memesistential Nov 02 '25
Former, mostly.
1
u/jesterincase Nov 03 '25
Do you know why he was credited for the Miles Teller episode?
I don't think he ever helped write the Santos portrayal.
2
u/memesistential Nov 03 '25
Not sure, honestly. Might’ve helped with Jane’s cut Update feature maybe?
4
u/jesterincase Nov 09 '25
He's credited again for the Glaser ep. I think he's just on the writing staff.

to no one's surprise, the domidgo sketch episode 3 was written by the same pair of suspects.
if modern Terms of Services weren't as strict as we know them today, i would've loved to finish the rest of this comment.
if they somehow redo domidgo sketches even after the episode 3 fiasco, maybe i'll edit this comment to reflect my thoughts in more detail.

I thought of all the PDD boys that Martin left the show, but nope, John left, Martin’s still a writer and Ben’s been promoted to cast. Hell yeah.
I wonder how much of an input new writer Maddie Wiener had on “Experienced Lawyers”? That’s an incredibly strong early sketch to have your name attached to.
5
u/SunnyGods Oct 15 '25
I'm new to SNL and I assume you're not - what do you know about Will Stephen? He's got the most impressive writing resume this season so far IMO.
3
u/quandisimo Nov 10 '25
He’s been there for ages and is great! He’s written heaps of bangers. Tucci gang is one I can remember off the top of my head

u/Positive_Piece_2533 Oct 12 '25
Really interesting that both one of the best sketches of the Poehler ep (Work Birth) and the worst (The Rudemans) are primarily Jack Bensinger creations. They share a certain…glee in their audience-prodding shonkiness which I think is fun. Putting Rudemans in the context of one of the guys who made Rap World adds a whole new dimension to it.
7
u/fattiesfriend Oct 13 '25
I wouldn't assume "primarily" - writers on a sketch are listed in alphabetical order.
3
u/matchingsweaters Oct 19 '25
When Jack was in Chicago, he frequently did sketches that were the “insert word-mans”. It’s his.
8
u/Raptorpicklezz Tim is my rapper name Oct 12 '25
I can't believe The Rudemans made it to air. At least without a more experienced writer taking the sketch after read through and adding a meta element to it. The gunshot punchline is the exact same cliched sketch-ender that Steve Carell skewered as Michael Scott in The Office.
3
u/Positive_Piece_2533 Oct 13 '25
I thought it was a fun throwback to the 00s and kind of a deliberately stupid provocation in the guise of Big Ear Family style harmlessness, but also yeah.
3
u/mohox13 Oct 07 '25
El Chavo Del Ocho made me want to jump out of my skin, one of my least favorites of all time
13
u/jesterincase Oct 07 '25
Thank you for continuing to put in all the effort it takes to make these. They're such a great resource.
12
u/neutralmondmilkhotel Oct 07 '25
I know one of the new writers and it’s so wild to see her name in this sub/ on tv!

u/Savings-Monitor3236 It's fobody's nault! Oct 07 '25
Pretty cool that Bad Bunny had a writing credit on one
8
u/prefab1979 Oct 06 '25
It figures that my least favorite sketch of the night was written by Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O'Sullivan. It's also a little alarming that the very rough Parent-Teacher Conference sketch was co-written by two of the show's head writers.
4
Oct 07 '25
This is surprising from both of y'all. This sub loves Ashley. I do, too. She's great. Because she was great in it, and they like her because she's one of the few improv comics currently in the cast. Only 5-6 of the 17 cast members are pure improv comics. So, yeah
6
u/prefab1979 Oct 07 '25
I agree with the general consensus on the sub that Ashley gave a great performance. But I still didn't laugh once at the sketch, and to me that almost entirely comes down to the writing. No one else in the scene was given room to react naturally to Ashley's behavior, and to me that's where most of the humor would come. For instance, I could see a version of the sketch where Bad Bunny's character starts off appalled by his son's drawings but once Ashley starts sexually harassing him and insulting his dead wife, he changes his mind.
9
u/jesterincase Oct 07 '25
I genuinely expected Ashley to have co-written the Parent Teacher Conference sketch, and I chalked up the uneven writing to the fact she's still new to sketch writing.
The reality is much more disappointing.
1
u/matchingsweaters Oct 19 '25
She was on Sunday company for years, she has surely written hundreds of sketches.

What? Nobody on the show memorizes their lines, in fact they’re told not to. I’m not sure the point you’re trying to make
Edit: ok I saw your edit (it said memorizing before it said reading) but now I’m just even more confused. He was reading his lines off the cards…?
4
u/nrthsthest Oct 06 '25
I feel like the stand-up folks usually have a hard time with the cue cards to start. There’s a real learning curve to it.
6
u/Lavaswimmer Oct 06 '25
Perhaps, but it feels weird to say they don’t trust him to read the cards when they gave him an update feature in his first episode lol
1
u/AntelopeNo3197 Oct 07 '25
Is an update feature that unusual? It seems like they do that a good bit for people, especially new people when they don’t know where else to fit them in.
1
u/Lavaswimmer Oct 07 '25
No, it's not unusual for someone new. It would probably be unusual for someone they didn't trust to read the cards, though
1
u/AntelopeNo3197 Oct 07 '25
He was doing more of a standup style though, by just talking as himself and not in a character.
Not arguing for or against the theory that they don’t trust him to read cue cards, but that bit relies on cue cards the least and is more like a standup bit, than anything.
1
u/Lavaswimmer Oct 07 '25
Every segment relies on the cards
1
u/AntelopeNo3197 Oct 07 '25
Yes, you’re right. I’m not arguing against that, I agree. I was just saying they often will give a new cast member a part on the update, where they play themselves. It’s kind of an introduction.
And that seems to be the easiest way to bring in a cast member that is not as familiar with playing a character and working within an ensemble.
And that someone from a standup background would probably feel more comfortable in that situation, because it’s more similar to standup comedy.

I'm guessing Mikey, Streeter and Marcello wrote Inventing Spanish. It had a Washington's Dream feel in parts.
4
u/jesterincase Oct 13 '25
Turns out it was Streeter, Jake Nordwind, Alison Gates, Maxwell Gay, and Tucker Flodman.
I'm assuming the lack of Mikey and the many hands on the pen are the reason it was a messy sketch.
3
u/jesterincase Oct 07 '25
It just didn't feel like Mikey & Streeter to me, but maybe there were other writers as well, like with ChatGPTio?
64
u/shutterslappens Oct 06 '25
Does this mean that nobody is taking public responsibility for the Jeopardy sketch?
I wouldn’t either.
119
u/DuePossession3947 Oct 06 '25
Clearly Inventing Spanish was written by the same team who wrote Nate's George Washington sketches. Awfully familiar.
1
u/jesterincase Oct 13 '25
It was Streeter but not Mikey.
It was also Jake Nordwind, Alison Gates, Maxwell Gay, and Tucker Flodman...which is a lot.

Haven’t recurring sketches/characters been part of SNL since the beginning?
19
u/DuePossession3947 Oct 07 '25
There's a difference between a recurring sketch and a derivative sketch.
12
u/Educational_Sky_1136 Oct 07 '25
I don’t think the writers would deny that it’s the same premise, repurposed in different settings. That’s basically the foundation of a recurring sketch.
I enjoy these variations on the same interesting idea much more than the umpteenth Gilly rehash.

On Mike Birbiglia's podcast Sarah just mentioned that Che wrote Black Santa.
